They’re the kind of clothes you can spy on fashion icons like Erin Wasson, Alessandra Ambrossio, Rosie Huntington-Whitley and Kate Bosworth, girls who truly embody a free spirit. We caught up with Anine Bing (who is also a contributor on The Carousel) to get all the secrets of her innate style.

What made you start your own label? Was there an exact moment that you thought “I can do this”?

I have always been obsessed about finding the perfect pair of jeans. I’ve bought hundreds of jeans over the years but without any real luck. One day I decided to design my own.

I put a lot of thought and effort into the design, fit and shape. I wanted them to have the perfect amount of stretch, thickness and of course color and I’m proud to say they turned out pretty good.

That was actually the moment when I realized I had an eye for it so I decided to keep designing and making more pieces that were missing in my own closet – and apparently in other women’s  closets too since they kept selling out.

In just about two years the brand has grown significantly and we’re getting more and more awareness of my designs. It has been and still is an incredible journey and I am so grateful and feel so lucky to be able to create and do what I love.

How did it start and how has the company progressed?

I felt there was room in the market for a brand that offered women a relaxed yet stylish collection of clothing. Pieces that are easy to wear and that can be combined with items you already have in your wardrobe.

I’ve always been in favour of a “less is more approach” when it comes to clothing and styling and I wish to think that’s what ANINE BING is all about – a label that offers high quality pieces with a perfect balance of rock n’ roll and bohemian
effortlessness.

How would you describe the woman who buys your label?

She is a woman who is confident in her own body. She doesn’t need a lot to feel great. Less is more for her. Her wardrobe is simple and she is a smart shopper who rather buy a few great pieces with high quality rather than a bunch of things she will only use once. She is smart, fun and she loves life.

My very first fashion memory was …

When I was 12 years old  and I bought my first pair of flared jeans. I was so proud to finally get my own pair!

My fashion journey started when …

I started modelling at the age of 15.  I traveled the world and learned so much about the fashion industry.

I look my best in …

A pair of jeans and an oversized t-shirt.

My last buy was …

New Diptyque candles for our new house.

Key pieces every woman should own …

A Chanel bag or a great handbag (I see it as a great fashion investment that will last for season after season and that can be passed on to my daughter when she grows up). ANINE BING jeans and leather jacket and a pair of Converse.

Sexiest things a woman can wear …

What ever she feel most confident in. If you feel confident  – you look sexy!

Five things I’m lusting after this season:

I always dream about a new Chanel bag but other than that I’m craving oversized t – shirts and knits, vintage denim and delicate jewelry.

On Saturday nights I’m busy …

Cuddling with my kids and husband.
