Code Camp is an ingenious school holiday experience co-created by one of Australia’s leading tech entrepreneurs and mum of three Hayley Markham. It turns your child’s screen time into a super fun learning holiday – and a potential base for a super rewarding career.
With tech high on everyone’s agenda thanks to the pandemic, there’s never been more demand for content creation. Code Camp aims to ramp up school holiday fun as well as get kids set for their future in a tech-filled world, should that be the direction they wish to follow.
“Content creation is growing at astounding levels,” Hayley says. “More and more children in primary school are now wanting to become the next major influencer of the future and as a result, coding is now more popular than ever.”
These school holidays around Australia, kids aged five-13 will have a chance to explore their creative side and have a whole lot of fun with Code Camp’s latest exciting offerings. In the last few years Code Camp has taught thousands of kids across the nation how to code and learn sound computer skills, that set them in great stead for the future.
Code camp offers several exciting courses that leave kids with a wealth of knowledge. These include:
- Code your own DC Super Hero Game
New to Code Camp this winter is ‘Code your own DC Super Hero Game. For the first time, Code Camp, in a partnership with DC and Warner Bros. Consumer Products, will help kids aged seven-12 bring their favourite DC characters of Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman to life at the three-day Spark and Ignite Code Camps.
Experienced tutors will assist kids to build their own exciting superhero game using DC themed backgrounds and collectibles, special power-ups and even shrinking potions! Kids will use a mix of creative level design, storytelling and problem-solving. Those unable to make an in-person camp can also participate in the online camps.
2. Spark Camp – Learn drag and drop along with JavaScript
For kids new to coding, Spark camp is where their journey begins. Here, kids learn to design their own arcade-style DC Super Hero game with logic and drag and drop coding. This is a visual coding language which makes it easy to understand the role each function plays in the game.
Meanwhile, kids ready to take their coding skills to the next level will move on to Ignite Camp. They will learn how to build an awesome new DC Super Hero game with advanced features. Ignore is open to those who complete Spark, and can use drag and drop and JavaScript coding. JavaScript is the language of the web used by virtually all websites including Facebook and Google.
At the end of each coding camp kids walk away with their own game and have ongoing access to the Code Camp World to continue their coding journey at home, school or anywhere with internet access.
3. Create your own YouTube channel
Other popular camps include the three-day YouTube Creators camp for ages eight-13, which has been incredibly popular since launching last year. Targeted at budding vloggers, gamers and budding content creators, kids learn planning, storytelling, shooting, video editing and how to set up their own YouTube channel.
4. Become a DJ
Another exciting new addition is the two-day DJ camp for those aged eight-13. Created in collaboration with professional DJs, kids learn how to mix music through techniques used by DJs and producers. They’ll produce their very own mix and perform to their class using professional DJing equipment.
5. Learn how to animate
Or if your child loves cartoons, the two-day animation camp for those aged six-10 is an engaging blend of storytelling, art and technology. Kids will create two movies using stop-motion animation – taking multiple images of objects and stitching them together to look like they’re moving.
