Home Entertainment Has Never Looked So Good

With cinemas now closed worldwide, it’s a tough time for the movie industry. But like many other industries, movie companies are reinventing themselves and they’re now in talks with Netflix, FetchTV, Foxtel and other streaming companies to release first run movies.

So who knows – in a short time you could be paying around $25 and you’ll be able to watch a first release movie for a 48-hour period. With so many people in lockdown and working from home, really – home entertainment has never looked so good!

Disney’s film, Mulan, has been delayed indefinitely because of COVID-19.

Some of the movies already delayed are the latest James Bond film, No Time to Die and Disney’s Mulan. Whether they remain in delay or come out on a streaming service, probably depends on how long the COVID-19 pandemic remains in lockdown phase.

Many Movies Released Earlier Now

To add more bang to your home entertaining buck, the streaming companies have released movies which would normally still be in cinemas much earlier than usual. Normally we have to wait for three months after a movie is released before it’s available for home viewing. But lately we’ve already seen Disney+ release Frozen 2 10 days ago – a few months earlier than usual – and now Birds of Prey is available to buy on Amazon.

The film, produced by and starring Margot Robbie, was only released at the cinema at the start of February but as COVID-19 also became more prevalent right at the same time, the film’s box office earnings were lower than expected. DC Comics is trying to make up for this by releasing it on Amazon early.

There’s a whole raft of movies you can watch at home early including Universal’s psychological thriller The Invisible Man and Bloodshot, a new superhero movie starring Vin Diesel as a vengeful super-soldier.

The Way Back, starring Ben Affleck, will be released on April 15th on Amazon Prime Video.

Out next week will be Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears (the movie sequel to the popular ABC show), Edward Norton’s Motherless Brooklyn (April 1), Ben Affleck’s addiction drama The Way Back (April 15), Clint Eastwood’s true-life drama Richard Jewell (April 1), death row drama Just Mercy (March 28) and Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen (March 31).

For most of us at home, TV has never looked so good. Happy viewing.
