Coachella Inspired: Your Festival Beauty Survival Guide

Coachella is back after a two-year hiatus because of the ongoing pandemic, and so are the big beauty and fashion brands. So let’s get started with your festival beauty survival guide.

Festivals provide a golden opportunity for beauty hoarders to call upon their cosmetic “untapped resources” – my name for every weird metallic eyeshadow, blue highlighter and multi-colored glitter salt and pepper shaker rattling around the bottom of your makeup bag. But it also provides some unique beauty challenges – especially if it’s an event of the multi-day variety.

Waterproof Everything

The Divine Flex-Mami will beat the heat at Coachella using waterproof beauty products from 3ina. Waterproof is a smart move for any day time event where you will be getting hot and sweaty – your colour blocked eye might slay at 10am but you don’t want to be enjoying a melting moment come 3pm. We also love that Flex served a non-traditional Coachella look – its great to see graphic eyes and matte colours getting a shout out in a sea of glitter!

Let Your Skin Glow

Another Aussie who killed at Coachella in the past? Model Shanina Shaik. Shaik kept her skin next-to-bare but structured brows and a slick of mascara framed her features. For brows I would suggest a pigmented, waterproof fibre gel – a one and done product so you’re not faffing with pencils, powders and gels. For lashes tubing mascaras are a godsend for long sweaty days – the formulas don’t flake or run. Even if you’re not 100% confident going bare skinned a lighter base product preferably with an SPF, can give you the low-maintenance look. You’re going to be sweating up a storm and realistically nobody got time for touch ups when you’re trying to catch Solange.

Go Bi

It wouldn’t be Coachella without SOME sparkle but we loved that a lot of Coachella’s it-girls opted for large, graphic jewels rather than rolling themselves in the glitter. The focus on placement creates an artful and beautiful look with the MAAAAJOR benefit that you wont be washing glitter out of your hair and finding it in your clothes weeks after the festival is finished. American Vlogger Jenn Im created a stunning look with artfully placed applique jewels, a tonal smokey eye and a peach lip that matched the peach in her crease. Monochrome magic!

Know Thy Self

It’s one thing to dole out advice about going bare-faced for festivals another one to follow it. In the words of Kasey Musgraves, who made her Coachella debut this year, “If I stick myself in a look that I just don’t feel right or comfortable or pretty in, you will be able to read it all over my face and body.” If anything less than full coverage, big wing and beat-cheeks makes you feel uncomfortable don’t do it! Musgraves herself often wears It Cosmetics CC Cream for performances – the full coverage cream has an SPF50 and a velvet finish. Pair it up with a primer and a powerful setting spray and consider yourself locked and loaded.
