Little Albion Guest House In Sydney: A Home Away From Home

There’s something special about boutique hotels. After recently staying at the Little Albion, a 35 room luxury guest house hotel in Surry Hills, Sydney, I marvelled at the idea of enjoying a hotel that felt like a home away from home, only a lot more luxurious.

What’s special about this hotel is that it’s tucked away in a quiet corner of Surry Hills and while particularly small with no gym or restaurant or restaurant, there is a huge amount of charm with its roof garden and the rooms are tastefully appointed.

There’s a help yourself breakfast provided in the morning with fresh fruit and cereal and the daily newspapers and this converts into a bar area in the evening, where you can help yourself to the selection of fine wines and sign for it as you do sort of like an ‘honesty bar’, which is refreshing in this day and age.

This unique heritage building is full of history dating back to its construction in 1903 as a former school convent with its own chapel, and then later as accommodation for the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation. As you enter via a heavy electric fence to the court yard as seen below, you are immediately struck by the gothic design and original features of the red brick building. Clearly the architect worked hard to preserve and enhance the old with the new.

Boasting an exclusively curated art collection, a selection of bespoke installation pieces and a number of custom-made furnishings combine individuality with an inimitably elegant aesthetic influenced by the 1920s and 1970s.

The result is a devoted transformation of the building into Little Albion. A house with a distinctively warm and welcoming ambience.

The great thing about being based in Surry Hills is that the area is simply overflowing with restaurants and bars with great atmosphere and quality food.
