Wednesday nights just got better at Queen Victoria Market – Melbourne’s go-to place for food and entertainment–with the announcement of an upcoming spring event, Hawker 88 Night Market.

Get a taste, sound, and sight of the Orient without flying overseas every Wednesday night from 19 September to 24 October in the Hawker 88 Night Market. There will be more than 20 street food stalls which selling authentic food from the streets of Asia. Experience delicacies from China to India, Malaysia to Japan, and Vietnam to Korea.

There will be traditional dishes like Filipino barbecue, Malay satay, Indian curries, and Korean pork belly.

Brick Lane Brewing Co.–one of Melbourne’s independent brewery–will also take part in the event by creating a specially-crafted beer that it named H88. The drink is made of a Japanese hop cultivar Sorachi Ace that will be a perfect pair with any Asian cuisine.

The Hawker 88 Night Market will run for over six weeks with a variety of weekly themes. These include Mooncake Festival, Durian Festival, Asian Festival, Filipino Festival, Bollywood Festival, and Thai Celebration. Besides getting your tummies full, you’ll also learn a lot from their culture and traditions!

To complete the whole Asian experience, expect a colourful scene surrounded by original music and entertainment from every region. Watch out for the Traditional Lion and Bollywood dancers, Filipino singers, Malaysian bands, and K-Pop performers who will rock the entire stage.

For the audience who have the confidence to show off their talents, a karaoke machine will be available, plus an eating competition for those with a huge appetite. Prepare to be amazed by how professionals demonstrate the making of mooncake and noodles!

The name, ‘Hawker 88 Night Market,’ was inspired by the luckiest number in Chinese Culture–8. You’ll see 88 lanterns hanging from the Market sheds, that will create an intimate and colourful canopy.
