Western Australia is the home of incredible beaches, wonderful city locations such as Perth and mind-blowing natural beauty. It’s also home to more sunshine than any other Australian capital, making it the perfect holiday destination for singles, couples, honeymooners and families.

That’s why, we’ve summed up where to play and where to stay in Perth, the biggest Aussie state’s capital. So get packing and Go West…

Cottesloe Beach

One of the world’s most famous beaches, and for good reason. Cottesloe Beach is renowned for it’s snorkelling, surfing, swimming, silky white sands and of course sipping wine (well the vino region of Margaret River is practically around the corner!). Catch the south west’s spectacular sunset and enjoy the beachside town’s cafes, restaurants and bars, the wide terraced lawns and vibrant buzzing energy.

The Perth Zoo

Families can explore all the sights, sounds and smells of Perth Zoo. Don’t miss the new Orangutan boardwalk, where you can get tree-top high and mingle up close and personal with colony. Check out the tigers, elephants and giraffes with your little monkeys for the entire day. We recommend a picnic lunch while you take in the view!

Rottnest Island

Perhaps one of the most unique and captivating islands in Australia, Rottnest Island is famously the home to the quokka (only found in WA), the cutest little marsupial ever, seals, ospreys and whales. So it’s not surprising that this island is bursting with natural wonders, sites and plant and wildlife. You’ll find 63 stunning beaches, 20 bays and a load of excellent reefs and wrecks to snorkel and explore. It’s a car-free zone, so explore the island and its restaurants and parks with a hire bike.

Kings Park & Botanic Garden

Right on the water and surrounded by incredible interactive gardens, this spot is the perfect day trip for the family on the cheap. As one of the largest inner city parks in the world and the most popular visitor destination in WA, it’s a must-do! Join a guided walking tour, relax waterfront or check out the 470 species of Western Australia Flora (300 of which are native to Kings Park and Botanic Gardens). The Kings Park Festival is held in September and is bursting with wildflower blooms.

Mountain Bike the Munda Biddi

Fancy a spin on two wheels? Up hill and through incredible countryside? Stretching 332kms from Mundaring to Collie in Australia’s South West, the Munda Biddi bike trail is an awesome (yet slightly difficult) track for hiking or biking. It’s about 46km from Perth but well worth the adventure. Great family bonding comes with physical activity!
