Nominated for a record nine categories, the pop superstar won just one prize, the Best Song category for Bad Blood, featuring Kendrick Lamar.
Taylor wasn’t able to accept the prize because she’s on tour in Atlanta.
The multiple Grammy winner starts the eagerly-anticipated Australian leg with a concert in Sydney on November 28.
The biggest winner on the star-studded MTV night, co-hosted by Aussie DJ Ruby Rose, was Justin Bieber who won five of the six awards he was nominated for.

Aussie pop punk band 5 Seconds of Summer was another notable highlight, walking away with the gong for Worldwide Act: Australia and New Zealand.
