Is Blurred Makeup the New Glass Skin?

For years, the cream of the complexion has been achieving “glass skin” – that ultra-dewy, poreless, and practically reflective face first made popular by South Korean beauty trends. Think high-shine cheekbones, glowy foreheads and skin so translucent you might need sunglasses just to look at it. But, beauty, like fashion, is always evolving. And in 2025, it seems we’re swapping out the high-shine highlight for something softer, hazier – and dare we say, more wearable. Welcome to the age of blurred makeup.

If “glass skin” was all about gloss and gleam, “blurred skin” is about softness and subtlety. It’s less about looking like you’ve stepped out of a K-drama and more about appearing like you live permanently in a flattering Instagram filter. Think a velvety, smooth, semi-matte finish that diffuses pores, tones down texture and dials back the dew without sacrificing radiance altogether.

It’s not surprising that this look is gaining momentum. After years of slugging, glow serums, and layering three types of highlighter, many beauty lovers are craving something that feels a little more refined, low-key, and frankly, less sticky. Enter blurred makeup – your skin, but filtered. It still celebrates healthy skin, but in a way that’s softer and more sophisticated.

Got Milk …? Here’s How To Use It Get Great Skin

So how do you actually get the look?

It all starts with skin prep. Hydration is still key here. Dry or flaky skin doesn’t blur well – so you’ll want to keep the moisturiser, but maybe skip the heavy oils or luminous primers. Instead, opt for lightweight gels or soft-focus bases that create a smooth canvas. Products with ingredients like dimethicone or silica are your friends here, helping to gently diffuse light and create that signature blurred effect.

When it comes to foundation, the new heroes of this trend are skin tints, soft-matte finishes and blurring serums. You’re not going for full coverage – you want something that evens out your tone without masking your face. Anything that balances a real-skin feel with a touch of airbrush will give you the right result.

Blush and bronzer are also getting the blurred treatment. Creams and balms are being swapped for softly milled powders with buildable pigments. The goal isn’t to sculpt your face within an inch of its life. It’s to add a whisper of colour that blends seamlessly into your base. Think pigment without harsh lines or heavy payoff – just a healthy flush that melts into your skin.

Even eye makeup is taking a softer turn. Smoky is still in – but now it’s more diffused, less drama. Think watercolour washes of taupe, hazel, and muted plum applied with a fluffy brush, not a cut-crease stencil. And instead of defined lips, we’re seeing a return of blurred lip stains and soft-focus finishes. A gentle flush of colour, applied with your finger or dabbed from a stain, feels effortless and undone in the best way.

Of course, blurred makeup doesn’t mean ditching skincare altogether. In fact, healthy skin is still the best base. But rather than aiming to look wet or shiny, the blurred trend is about balance. And, keeping skin looking hydrated and real, not glossy or glazed.

Some say it’s a rebellion against the hyper-perfected Instagram aesthetic. Others argue it’s a nod to classic beauty, reimagined for the modern age. Either way, blurred makeup feels like a natural progression – a fresh-faced, polished-but-effortless response to the high-glam, high-glow looks of the past few years.

So is blurred makeup the new glass skin? Not necessarily a replacement – but definitely the evolution. Where glass skin shimmered and shone, blurred makeup whispers and winks. And in a world that sometimes feels too sharp, a little softness might just be exactly what we need.

Three Products to Help You Achieve Blurred Skin

If you’re aiming for that flawless, soft-focus finish, these three complexion-enhancing heroes by Anastasia Beverly Hills are the perfect place to start.

Blurred Skin

The Magic Touch Blush Trio offers a weightless, blurred matte flush with its silky cream texture and high pigment payoff. Designed to blend seamlessly into the skin, the trio features vivid, long-wearing shades that work beautifully on both cheeks and lips. And, deliver a natural-looking glow without feeling greasy or heavy.

For sculpting, the Smooth Blur Contour Stick melts into skin with a flexible, gel-like texture that defines features while keeping things dewy and comfortable. Infused with Vitamin E and suitable for all skin types, this contour essential creates definition. Without harsh lines or drying effects.

Finish with the Smooth Blur Bronzer, a gel-powder hybrid that blends like a dream while delivering a soft-matte, sun-kissed glow. Its blurring technology helps minimise the look of texture and pores, giving your skin a naturally sculpted, airbrushed effect that lasts all day.
