To celebrate the most travelled British monarch of all time, we worked alongside Cheapflights.com.au  to take a page out of the Queen’s travel journal to provide travellers with five unexpected regal destinations:

Kenya And Her Majesty

Treetops Hotel in the heart of Kenya is renowned as the place where the then Princess Elizabeth, at the tender age of 25, first heard the news of her father’s passing and that she was to be Queen. The now famous site in the mountainous Aberdare National Park offers travellers the chance to come face-to-face with animals of the forest. Elephants, buffalos and bushbucks are regular visitors. But be sure to pack warm clothes – at 6,450ft, the night air is cold.

The Bahamas And Her Majesty

The Bahamas is a ‘constitutional monarchy’, which means that at all of her official duties relating to the 700 islands in the Atlantic, Her Majesty speaks and acts as Queen of The Bahamas rather than Queen of the UK. A favourite destination of the Royal Family, today you can visit the capital Nassau and climb the ‘Queen’s Staircase’ – named in honour of the current reigning monarch’s great grandmother, Queen Victoria.

Malta And Her Majesty

Malta is the only place the Queen has lived outside the UK, and where she and the Duke of Edinburgh spent the first two years of their marriage. The Queen, whose father George VI granted the George Cross to Malta for heroism during the Second World War, has visit the destination six times, most recently in 2015. Malta is among the sunniest spots in Europe – and offers culture vultures the opportunity to tour a variety of roman ruins alongside centuries-old religious artworks.
