Ever felt like you suddenly went up two pant sizes in a day? If the jeans you slipped into this morning now have you entering into a full blown wrestling match just to latch the button, you are not alone. This is a common problem. It’s not just about eating too much; fluid retention, often caused by factors such as too much of certain foods, like salt or carbs, hot weather, dehydration, staying in one position for too long and monthly hormonal fluctuations, can leave you feeling uncomfortably stuffed. But don’t worry – there are natural ways to beat the bloat and get back to feeling fabulous.

1. Make h2o your go go go!

It might seem odd, but drinking more water can actually help you shed excess fluid. When you’re dehydrated, your body clings to water like a lifeline. By staying well-hydrated, you encourage your body to let go of the extra fluid and flush out those annoying toxins. Aim for at least eight glasses of water a day and throw in some herbal teas like peppermint, ginger or dandelion root for an extra diuretic boost.

2. A perfect plate

Fibre is your friend when it comes to beating bloat. Load up on fruits, veggies, whole grains, and legumes to keep your digestion running smoothly. Avoid processed foods and high-sodium snacks that can work against you. Try potassium-rich options like bananas and avocados to help balance out the salt and keep bloating at bay.

3. Aim to exercise

Getting active can be a game-changer for bloating. Exercise stimulates digestion and promotes circulation, helping to move trapped gas and fluid out of your system. A brisk walk after meals or a session of yoga can be surprisingly effective. Aim for 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days to keep things moving and minimise discomfort.

4. Give gas traps the flick

Some foods are notorious for causing gas and bloating. Beans, broccoli, cabbage, and fizzy drinks can all contribute to that swollen feeling. Individual food sensitivities can also wreak havoc on your digestive system. If you notice certain foods make you feel uncomfortable, try cutting back or choosing alternatives that are easier for you to digest. Smaller, more frequent meals can also help keep bloating in check.

5. Secret weapon supplements

When bloating strikes and nothing seems to help, a supplement might just be the secret weapon you need. Try one like Caruso’s Fluid Away, which combines the power of three traditional herbs Dandelion, Celery Seed and Stonebreaker, plus Vitamin B6 to tackle mild fluid retention head-on.

Dandelion is traditionally used in Western Herbal Medicine to increase urine output, temporarily relieve mild fluid retention and reduce abdominal bloating.

Celery Seed is also traditionally used in Western Herbal Medicine to enhance urine output and reduce abdominal bloating. Celery Seed also supports urinary tract function, relieves inflammation and supports joint health.

Stonebreaker has a long history of traditional use in Ayurvedic Medicine for supporting urinary tract health and protecting the liver. Stonebreaker also assists the body’s natural waste elimination processes.

Incorporate these natural strategies into your daily life to combat bloating and get back to buttoning those jeans with ease.
