If you live in Sydney, or even if you’re just visiting, there’s an amazing beach escape well worth packing an overnight bag for.
Away from the busy tourist beaches like Bondi, Coogee has a lot of relaxing sunshine activities at your fingertips – and you don’t face an arduously long road trip to get there!
Your itinerary for a weekend city getaway
Stay at Crowne Plaza Coogee Beach and experience waking up to the gorgeous seaside views from your balcony as you enjoy a coffee and take in the rejuvenating ocean air.

The Crowne Plaza Hotel has a range of rooms, all of which have clean, modern décor and comfortable beds, from poolside view rooms to the seaview suites. You will be right in the heart of Coogee and only a quick stroll down to the beach.

In the morning enjoy the hotel’s huge buffet breakfast spread at Bluesalt Restaurant, which even has its own juicer for you to use! Here you can stock up on your stamina before heading for some stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) fun with ‘Let’s Go Surfing’. Whether you are a beginner or a full-time paddle boarder you can hire some boards or book a lesson and head to Bondi, Coogee, Maroubra or Malabar to enjoy a morning on the water. It’s a great way to tone your core and fun for surfers or non-surfers, especially when the water is calmer.

Then enjoy a delicious ocean view lunch from the trendy Oceans Drinks and Dining. You can truly feel like you are out of the city as you gaze across Coogee Beach.

Grab a quick snack or enjoy a delicious lunch from a huge selection of their amazing share plates, especially enjoy their fantastic seafood selection. You can’t beat good seafood whilst by the sea.

Then head off to the famous coastal Coogee to Bondi Walk. Here you can enjoy the many beautiful coastal beaches and stop off for a swim in the ocean or the natural swimming pools at stops such as Clovelly. It’s a really scenic picturesque walk and there are plenty of Kodak moments. You might even spot some whales on the horizon if you’re lucky.
I recommend taking some comfy shoes to walk in and maybe a blanket so you can stop off and enjoy a relaxing sit down on one of the coastal ledges and simply soak up the gorgeous ocean views.
If you don’t feel quite up to the whole trek there and back, which not all us might, then walk along to Bronte and back.
Then you can pop into the iconic Coogee Pavilion as you reach the finish line and reward yourself with a nice cold drink on the rooftop. Sip away and soak up the atmosphere as you watch the sun go down. At the weekend the Pavilion gets pretty busy with the stylish Sydneysiders, so you can either stay and enjoy that scene, or head back to the hotel to get ready for an evening out.
For dinner, The Sugarcane Restaurant, which is right across from the Crowne Plaza, is definitely the place to go. Its amazing south-east asian cuisine is to die for. Not only is the food sensational but the cocktails are exquisite. It also has a very un-pretentious/family vibe and a very reasonable price point.
When you are feeling contently watered and fed you can head back and relax in your comfortable hotel bed, feeling cleansed of the city grime and stress.
Wake up fresh and rested with no morning commute, just a simple meander down to the poolside to relax with a coffee and book.
Or saunter up the streets and pursue the local Coogee village which has some quaint boutique stores to explore.
To add the icing to the cake on your stay at The Crowne Plaza make sure you book in for high tea at the Bluesalt Bar.
It’s the perfect treat to end your weekend getaway – and it will certainly not disappoint!
