Ask designer Cala Zampatti how many pairs of sunglasses she has and she’s hard pushed to put a number on it. For her, a stylish pair of sunglasses and a well designed outfit go hand in hand.

Speaking at the Sydney launch of her new winter 2018 collection and Specsavers Eyewear launch, the doyenne of Australian fashion told Victoria Webster from The Carousel that to her sunglasses are synonymous with fashion.

The launch event was held in the Bay 21 Gallery at iconic Sydney venue, Carriageworks, with close to 250 VIP guests treated to an exclusive runway show.

“I like good tailoring,” Carla said after the show. “I don’t like chaos. I don’t like mess. Jackets are really on trend mixed and so is daytime worn with evening pieces, formal mixed with causal – they seem to work with everyone and our lifestyle. I like clothes to be strong but feminine and wearable. I want my customer to feel really good in their outfits. My clothes are for people who like simplicity with drama.”

Carla believes wearing sunglasses adds a sense of mystery to your look. “I have to say having a wonderful wardrobe with sunglasses is such a treat – (wearing sunglasses) with each outfit helps lift your mood. Designing my new range, I wanted it to look good on the face and be flattering and comfortable and relevant to today’s fashion.”

Retro-inspired classics from past decades are reinterpreted in her new range with fresh, contemporary flair, making them highly wearable and unique. True to Carla’s signature, many of the designs exude a gracefulness, and a sense of fluidity, defined by easy-to-wear shapes created with extraordinary craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Carla’s new range includes a spin on the 1930s pilot style sunglasses and her range is priced from $199 for two pairs single vision.

Exclusive to Specsavers and available in stores nationwide from October 12, the collection includes 14 optical and eight prescription sunglasses. The campaign is also fronted by Australian actress and Carla Zampatti fan, Marta Dusseldorp.
