Megan Gale’s Top Red Carpet Tips From Cannes

We caught up with model, actress, mum and Australian Face of L’Oreal Paris during the crazy fashion whirlwind that was Cannes Film Festival for her top tips and tricks for getting red-carpet ready.

How do you pick what sort of makeup look to go for – do you like to match the look to your dress, or do you have a signature look that you fall back on?

I’m definitely conscious of certain red carpet looks that are winners with me and looks that I simply do not suit. That said I like to try new things at times too and Cannes is the perfect place to experiment! Us ambassadors are SO lucky because we have the absolute A-Team looking after us. Having a hair stylist like Stephane Lancien and a makeup guru like Karim Rahman they can really do no wrong so you know you are in very good hands when they’re working with you.

What’s your secret to looking glamorous on the red carpet (but not over the top)?

I think I always try and look somewhat groomed, even if I don’t have much time to devote to a beauty regime (often the case since becoming a Mum!)  A few simple tricks like a sleek pony tail or a top knot, a bright lip colour, a few lashings of mascara to open up the eyes are quick ways to make you appear done within minutes.

Do you follow any rituals to prep for a big red carpet night?

If I have the time I like to fit in a bit of yoga or meditation the morning of an event to centre myself, clear my head and relax before the madness begins! Listening to music and having a candle burning can definitely assist in keeping the mood chilled out too.

What’s the best part about going to a special event like Cannes Film Festival… is it the getting ready process, wearing an incredible dress or walking the red carpet?

There are so many factors that make this week spectacular. The location (doesn’t get much better than the south of France), the lovely company, the fun of getting ready with the other ambassadors, the excitement of the Festival and of course the thrill of the red carpet. All of the above make for a truly great experience.

Do you ever get nervous when walking the red carpet?

Not so much anymore, I really just try to enjoy it and have fun!

What’s your best advice for someone walking the red carpet for the first time?

Don’t forget to breathe! Sounds silly but if you’re nervous and anxious it’s likely you’re breathing quite shallow and that tension will show in your face and in your expression. To relax and breathe slowly and deeply is a sure fire way to ease tension (from your body and your face) and soothe your nerves.

What products did you have stashed in your clutch?

Must must-haves would have to include L’Oreal Paris Touche Magique Concealer, L’Oreal Paris True Match Blush, L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Lipstick (shade depending obviously), and L’Oreal Paris Elnett Hair Spray (the mini size is perfect for the clutch).

You’re a L’Oreal ambassador, starring in a hit movie (Mad Max), and have a family too; how do you keep on top of everything?

It is a constant juggling act and one that I, like any working Mum, just tries to manage on a daily basis.  I work hard to keep that balance going!
