AusMumprenuer Of Year Shares Her Tips On Work Life Balance
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Do you ever have one of those days where your kids are running amok, the stack of files on your desk is starting to resemble Mt Everest and all you’re dreaming about is that glass of wine at the end of the day?

As Co-Founder of Whole Kids, Australia’s largest organic health food provider for children, Monica believes a balanced life of work and play is the key to success. “Each person’s priorities are different, but in the end it needs to always truly reflect yours, not someone else’s.”

Monica was recently named the 2015 St George Banking Group AusMumpreneur and she credits this win to five essential guidelines that help create harmony between a healthy personal life and a strong work ethic.

Here Monica gives us her personal guide to achieving a healthy work life balance:

1. Set realistic and achievable goals for yourself
Setting really big goals for your business is important but you should also then break this down into two to three priorities. By setting goals for yourself, both personally and professionally, you are setting boundaries and ultimately motivating yourself to reach your desired destination. Goals need to be specific, relevant and most importantly, attainable. An unreached goal is only a vision that needs a little more attention.

2. Be present with your kids
Every now and then you need to switch off, especially from technology. During family gatherings, resist checking emails, and during your children’s recreational activities, watch them rather than your news feed. The constant interruption of notifications can distract you from enjoying the moments that matter most! Leave work at the office, and enjoy your family when you are home to avoid guilt and to be fully fulfilled.

3. Time with your partner
Make time for the special person in your life and be there for them. Despite my husband and I working across from one another, we make it a priority to disconnect from the business and spend time doing other things we love together.

4. Stay connected to yourself
Take time out of your day to focus on yourself. It’s important to enjoy some down time alone, taking a moment to sit down and enjoy a cup of tea in the morning, enjoy a few pages of a good book or relax with glass of wine when the kids go to bed.

5. Take care of your body and mind
I lead an active life and encourage other working mothers to exercise regularly. Exercise is one of the most important parts of everyday life, however, it is unfortunately the first thing to be sacrificed after having children. I mix it up with a range of activities such as taking part in spin classes, going for walks with friends and unwinding in yoga classes, which helps me calm my mind and clear my thoughts.

Too much of anything is not a good thing, and by creating that healthy balance between life and work, you will see greater success in both your personal and professional life.
