Lisa Wilkinson's Love Affair With The Northern Territory
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

She’s visited the Northern Territory six times in the last two years, but Channel Nine’s Today Show co-host Lisa Wilkinson is still captivated by everything it has to offer.

So when Lisa returned from her most recent trip to Uluru with husband and journalist Peter FitzSimons, she couldn’t help but rave about the destination. “Every time I come, there’s something different to see,” she says.

Lisa’s love affair with the NT began when she covered the Royal Visit to Uluru in 2014. Since then, her fondness for the Territory has continued to grow – and she’s keen to share the magic with those closest to her.

As such, during her most recent jaunt she had Peter in tow, with whom she shared a Sounds of Silence dining experience under the starry desert sky.

Lisa reflects on the indulgent selection of native bush ingredients like quandong, crocodile and kangaroo: “This really is the ultimate luxury dining experience in the outback.”

And for breakfast? Lisa enjoyed a breathtaking sunrise spread on top of Mt Conner. Speaking about her indulgent breakfast on the distinctive, flat-topped mountain, Lisa says: “This is one of the most unique experiences I’ve ever had in the NT. I was told I’m one of only about 40 to have had this stunning experience to date.”

Lisa also notes the NT isn’t just for hopeless romantics – thrill seekers have plenty to choose from, too.

Always up for adventure, the trip saw Lisa take in a 360 degree view of the vivid red dunes from a helicopter 300m above ground – more than double the height of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

“There’s something electrifying about sightseeing by helicopter,” Lisa says. “You really appreciate the magnificence of the Red Centre when you have that helicopter view of how vast it is.”
