We’ve hit the cooler months and it’s all about keeping warm. This also means an increase in our energy bills.

To reduce your energy costs and still keep warm, here are some easy and some not so easy tips…

1. If you’re up for it, insulation in the roof, walls and under floors seals a home against air leakage and dramatically reduces the need for heating.

2. Retrofitting Low E window film to your existing windows can operate the same as Low E windows, retaining as much as half the heat inside the room on cold days.

3. Seal all your doors, windows and skirtings to reduce heat loss and therefore reduce your energy costs and carbon footprint.

4. If you need a new heating appliance, make sure it has a great Energy Efficient Star rating.

5. Keep curtains and blinds up during the day to increase heat exposure into your home.

6. As soon as the sun goes down, draw your curtains and pull down blinds to reduce heat loss.

7. Rugs on a hard floor can create warmth under your feet and reduce cold air in and heat loss out.

8. Shut the door! Close the doors to the area you’re occupying to contain heat.

9. Wear warmer clothes. Yep, rug up, that’s an easy one.
