How To Get Started On Your Painting Project – Throw A Painting Party & Make It Fun!

The perfect time to get your painting project done quickly, easily and have a little fun is by hosting a paint party! Make painting your room an excuse to have your friends over, pump up the music and get that painting party started! The Block’s Shaynna Blaze shares her tips on some palettes to get your party cracking.

By following this Party Planning 101 guide, you’ll throw a Paint Party to remember.

  1. Recruit the best – a party isn’t a party without your friends. Recruit your pals and appoint your own Captain of Fun, Sergeant Sand Paper, Mr Tea, Director of Colour, Lead Roller…you get the picture
  2. Choose your colour – you can find tips from interior design guru, Shaynna Blaze on Taubmans.com.au where you can also road test a hue digitally using the Paint Your Own Room tool
  3. Prep it up! – prep pre-party to keep the activity fun. Ensure walls are clean, pictures are taken down and furniture is stowed away or covered
  4. Calculate quantities – knowing how much paint you need is essential. Use a Paint Calculator on the Taubmans site to tell you all about the paint including how much, what kind you need and where to buy it.
  5. Pump up the jams – every good party needs good tunes. Get your friends to add tracks to your #PaintParty playlist on Spotify.
  6. Fancy dress and best – theme your party, ask people to come in fancy dress or supply white tees for free rein to get messy.
  7. Feed your friends – stock the fridge and fuel your crew with pizza and snacks to keep the party going
  8. Get silly – photo booth your house by setting up a tripod to capture the transformation- thrills, spills and all!
  9. Make it a game – Healthy competition never hurts! Award prizes for your painters – think who’s neatest (or messiest), best dressed…person who complains the least

If you’re still stuck on what colour to choose, Shaynna Blaze, has put together a few winter palettes to get you underway.

“Taking the lead from the trends of metallic colours like copper and bronze, hues of orange and salmon will also emerge into our winter palettes. Pastel orange tones like Rosette Royale and Sweet Peach, work well with blonde timbers. Try this combination to create a modern look with an organic feel, which also adds a sense of warmth to a winter palette.”

“I also love using less traditional winter colours like deep charcoals and indigos in my interiors.  The key is to layer your tones from the dark wall colour through to a soft grey or white in your trims and accessories.  Utilizing five or six hues ranging from dark blue, to grey blue to white, will create the perfect moody look this winter.  My favourite combination is Gypsy Rose, Dusty Violet, Snow Goose and Ice Princess.”

“For an unexpected winter palette, look at using grey. Taupe greys on your walls give a warm base palette for crisp coloured bed linen and black accents, such as bedside lamps. Slightly reflective materials like silky timbers for bedside tables and copper flecks in details of cushions and bedside candles will bring the room to life.”
