Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia women. And, while the disease is tough, so are the women who fight against it. Including the various organisations who continue to commit to finding funds – and hopefully a cure – against it. One of the best examples is Breast Cancer Trials (BCT) – ANZ’s largest oncology research group. Who, this Thursday 9th May, will provide a unique opportunity to double the impact of your contributions with their first-ever ‘matched giving day’.

For 24 hours only, a group of generous supporters will match donations from the public dollar for dollar. This means that every dollar you donate will double, effectively amplifying the impact of your generosity. The funds raised will dedicate to funding critical clinical breast cancer research, moving us closer to finding kinder and more effective treatments, and ultimately saving lives.

The statistics surrounding breast cancer are sobering. In Australia alone, breast cancer diagnoses affect 20,000 people each year, with the majority being women. Tragically, this disease claims over 3,000 lives annually, resulting in nine individuals succumbing to breast cancer every day. These numbers underscore the urgent need for increased funding for research and clinical trials.

The ‘For Our Mums Appeal’ is more than just a fundraising event. It serves as a tribute to the countless mothers and grandmothers who breast cancer has affected. In fact, many of Breast Cancer Trials’ own supporters have personal connections to the cause. Having lost their own loved ones or facing a diagnosis themselves. By naming the Giving Day in honour of these individuals, Breast Cancer Trials aims to create a sense of community and solidarity among those touched by this disease.

The timing of the Giving Day, just before Mother’s Day, holds special significance. It provides an opportunity for individuals to contribute to life-saving research. And, simultaneously also share their stories, gratitude and memories of their mums and mother-figures. Through social media platforms, supporters can connect with like-minded individuals and amplify their impact by spreading awareness and encouraging others to donate.

Ultimately, every contribution, no matter how big or small, brings us one step closer to a future where breast cancer is no longer a threat. By participating in the matched giving day, you’re not just donating. You’re investing in hope, progress and the promise of a better tomorrow for all those affected by breast cancer.

Make a donation online at breastcancertrials.org.au/givingday or by calling 1800 423 444.
Additionally, you can follow Breast Cancer Trials on social media (@breastcancertrials and #ForOurMums) to stay updated and share your own experiences and messages of support.
