Good Design Never Goes Out of Style - King Living Relaunches its 1977 Sofa

I recently attended a lunch at The Apartment in the Centennial Hotel, Woollahra, in Sydney for the launch of King Living’s iconic 1977 sofa, a modern reimagining of their beloved 1977 inaugural modular sofa ‘The Award’.

The Apartment in the Centennial was beautifully styled for the occasion with a stunning table setting including Iceland poppies in Maison Balzac glass vases and also candles in Maison Balzac candleholders.

There was even an example of the original 1977 sofa which as you can see below has stood the test of time.

The 1977 sofa is a timeless, simple, classic design combined with innovative craftsmanship and elegant silhouettes. The modularity of the sofa makes it perfect for flexible living. It can be combined and rearranged into endless configurations, adapting to evolving lifestyles and space requirements.

Engineered for longevity, the 1977 sofa features a strong recyclable steel frame and a steel suspension system which works harmoniously with the Postureflex Seating System, providing excellent support and durability.

The sofa modules will be available in a range of colours in two fabric collections developed exclusively for 1977. The covers can be easily removed and machine washed.  What’s not to love?!

I often purchase King furniture for my clients both here and in London (they have two shops in London). I look forward to being able to offer this 1977 sofa as an option to clients as its flexibility makes it perfect for small or large spaces.

You can watch Neale Whitaker’s interview with King Living’s David King about the sofa he designed in his twenties and how, like Saturday Night Fever and the first Apple, it’s stood the test of time.
