Movie production in Hollywood is still on hold because of COVID-19 but Margot Robbie hasn’t been sitting around doing nothing. She’s just signed up to star in a Pirates Of The Caribbean spin-off and that’s going to bring an even larger audience to what is one of the more successful movie franchises of all time (the franchise has grossed over $4.5 billion worldwide so far and is the 14th highest-grossing series of all time).
No doubt this makes the producers of the series, Disney, happy. The 29-year-old Aussie actress is working on developing the new film with Christina Hodson, the writer behind Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). It’s been reported Hodson is writing a more ‘female-fronted’ script.
Not much else known about Margot Robbie’s spin-off
Apart from the fact that Robbie has signed up for it, not much else is known about the new Pirates Of The Caribbean spin-off. No director has been announced and no release date is set, but if Margot Robbie is going to be on a pirate ship in swashbuckling action then all we can say is – when?
Others have pondered even more questions such as will Robbie’s character be any relation to Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow? Maybe Jacqueline Sparrow? We just don’t know yet.
Another Pirates movie in the works which is the next in the series
This new Pirates spin-off is one of two Pirates projects in the works right now. The second Pirates project is the next one in the series by original franchise writer, Ted Elliot, and newcomer Craig Mazin, is still going ahead, so it seems there’s going to be quite a bit of pirate action on the screen soon.
Not too much is known about the next Pirates movie but it’s been confirmed that Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow won’t be returning and all eyes will be on a new central character – possibly Redd, the popular female pirate from the Disney ride.
Margot Robbie is pretty much booked up for films for a while
It looks like Margot Robbie has some busy years ahead when production of movies starts to roll again. She has a number of Harley Quinn projects in the works, including the Suicide Squad reboot, Gotham City Sirens and a movie alongside the Joker.
As well as these, she’s starring in a new film from director David O. Russell along with Christian Bale. We don’t know much more about this movie but Robbie’s also been confirmed as the lead in the new Barbie movie which was originally slated to start production this year. We’ll have to wait and see which movie Robbie starts work on first.
