Join In On The 30th Year Of The Balmoral Swim For Cancer

NOTE TO READERS: THIS EVENT WAS CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19

Ever since it began as an initiative for cancer in 1990, the Balmoral Swim has raised over one million dollars for the Children’s Cancer Institute. Now, on April 5, 2020, it’s set to host its 30th year.

What is it?

If you like the idea of swimming in the beautiful open water of the Sydney Harbour, then this is the event for you. Whether you’re an expert or newbie, the Balmoral Swim for Cancer involves the fun parts of swimming all while supporting a great cause.

Balmoral Swim for Cancer

The event is organised by volunteers, mostly members of the Balmoral Beach Club. However the entire local community works together with wonderful supported by sponsors; Gold – Audi Mosman, Dexus & URM, Silver – Jeckra & Medilab, Bronze – Edney Ryan and Oceanswims.com.

This year alone, the Balmoral Swim aims to raise up to $350,000 which will go to the Zero Childhood Cancer program – the first-ever personalised medicine program for children with high-risk or relapsed cancer.

Date: Sunday 5th April 2020

Time: 7am – 1pm

Location: Balmoral Beach

What events can I partake in?

There are events suitable for everyone across a range of ability.

For those who are stronger and more confident swimmers, you may choose the 5km swim around the bay. Alternatively, if you still want a challenge but with less distance, opt for the 2km swim around the bay.

Other events include:

  • 1km swim around the island 
  • School’s Team Challenge Relay (4 x 200m)
  • Corporate Team Challenge 
  • 200m Junior Swim – under 12yrs 
  • Community relay (4 x 200M) (New event)
