This year fashion designers Michelle Aznavorian from Misha Collection and Cyd Beard from Finders Keepers the Label have collaborated with Priceline and created two limited edition beauty bags inspired by the designers’ favourite prints from their collections.

Hair Director Kenneth Stoddart said he and Makeup Director Sarah Laidlaw create their trend report by following what is happening on the runways of New York and Europe. “You see consistent styles cropping up,” he said. “We takes these threads and weave them together into something that will translate to the Australian market.” Sarah Laidlaw provided a breakdown of some of the biggest beauty looks on the runway. These are the trends that she and Stoddart will be bringing to  the upcoming Melbourne Fashion Festival, where Priceline is the official hair and beauty partner.

Glitter:

We reported on glitter makeup at Ashish’s London Fashion Week show in our Fashion Week roundup. Sarah Laidlaw fused this trend with graphic eyes like those seen at the Alexa Chung show, to create a more wearable beauty look. She suggested using the NYX Glitter Primer to make sure the pigment doesn’t budge. She also said  keeping glitter focused to one area and paring it with a nude lip makes the look more wearable.

Muted Tones:

Another trend is muted tones, a combination of the glossy, monochrome looks that have been seen on the runway. A specific example was the FentyXSavage runway last September. There, models were splashed with semi-transparent water colour-blush tones on eyes cheeks and lids.

Runway to real-way: muted monochromes with Priceline

Sarah Laidlaw says this trend is all about ease and you can take it as far as you like. For this editorial Laidlaw applied matching blush peach tones to eyes, cheeks and lips. The great thing about the look Laidlaw said, was anyone can wear it.  Whether your fifteen or fifty it’s universally beautifying. Laidlaw said if you felt like experimenting one of her favourite muted-monochrome hacks was using Maybelline Babylips Blush and Balm in Innocent Peach. Applying the semi-transparent balm to eyes, cheeks and lips will give a wash of dewy, editorial colour.

Red Lips

A fashion staple, the red lip is back with a vengeance this season. It was spotted at shows from Oscar de La Renta and Tod’s to Luisa Becarria and Emporio Armani. Allure Beauty announced that by the third day of Milan fashion week “one thing is clear: Red lipstick is Fall 2019’s most popular runway hue.”

Sarah Laidlaw said she was inspired by the Parisian attitude to beauty for the red lip. She suggested focusing your pop of colour on the mouth and leaving the rest minimal. Brushed out brows, bare bronze lids and bronzer are all you need when your lips are doing the talking. She said one key to really nailing the look lies in  prepping the lip properly. She suggested using Australis Lip Scrub to buff away any flakes, accompanied by Lanolips 101 ointment. Sarah admits she always keeps a tube of this with her backstage.

SKIN (it’s always in):

For Sarah, it’s essential to start with a completely clean base. “I always have pump pack of Bioderma backstage in case the models have any left over makeup or moisturiser on their skin.” Once the skin is clean she can assess what the model needs. At the moment she favours lightweight moisturisers that delivery a heavy dose of hydration like the Olay Whips or Neutrogena Hydroboost. Lanolips 101 is also essential, Laidlaw leaves a generous coat on the lips throughout every application, so by the time the makeup is finished the lips are “plump and ready for lipstick.”

On her favourite products, Sarah said: “As a makeup artist there are so many new products, and I’m just like our customers, I get excited about everything that’s new. So its a love affair every week.”
