AFL’s Hottest Couple Nadia & Jimmy Bartel Talk Style, Health, Fitness & Spring Racing Tips

He was voted this year’s sexiest player in the AFL and she’s the super style-blogger from chroniclesofnadia.com.au – they’re power duo Nadia and Jimmy Bartel and they join us to talk all things style, health, fitness and racing as this year’s Spring Racing Ambassadors for online fashion destination, The Iconic.

Nadia & Jimmy on Spring Racing

What does your pre-race-day preparation routine include?

Nadia: It is normally starts pretty early with a glass of champagne and orange juice with my girls to get the day started. I like to spoil myself on race days so I head to my amazing hairdresser and makeup artist to get pampered for the long day ahead.
Jim: Some exercise in the morning so I can have some guilt free beers.

What’s your favourite Day during Spring Racing Carnival? Why?

Nadia: Derby Day is my favourite day by far. It is the first day of the carnival and everyone is in a party mood. I also love that tradition reigns supreme on this day with the black and white dress code. I feel like everyone really makes an effort on Derby Day.
Jim: Oaks day as the crowds aren’t as big (although still incredibly large) and people just seem to be in more of a relaxed mood.

Nadia wears: Cameo dress, Morgan & Taylor fascinator, Tony Bianco Mules, Spurr Clutch.

Jimmy Wears: Politix Lars jacket, Politix Anders pants, Van Heusen shirt, Hugo Boss Tie.

What fashion trends will you be sporting track-side this Spring Carnival? (n.b. the iconic trends are matching co-ordinates, lace, bright floral prints)

Nadia: A huge trend this year from The Iconic will be matching coordinates; we will see lots of bold prints matched together for an edgy look. Pastel colours such as lilac, baby blue and yellow will be really popular; we will see pastels in lace and floral prints. Black and white on Derby Day will include lots of different textures like leather, mesh, cut-outs and neoprene.
Jim: I have noticed a few lighter suits coming through this year and bow ties seem to be back in Vogue for younger guys.

Nadia wears: Bardot Sienna Midi Skirt, Bardot Sienna top, Siren shoes, Morgan & Taylor fascinator, Verali clutch.

Jimmy Wears: Uber Stone Charles Suit, Ben Sherman Tie, Pierre Cardin Shirt, Double Oak Mills Shoes.

How does your Spring Racing Carnival beauty regime differ from your every-day regime?

Nadia: When it comes to trackside makeup, less is more. It’s a daytime event so I like to stick to neutral tones that are really fresh, something that will stay in place all day. I will always bring my lippy along with me so I can touch up.
Jim: It doesn’t really change for me to be honest.

How do you get your look to ‘stay-put’ or last throughout the day?

Nadia: I use a great primer on race days to ensure my makeup doesn’t move. I also bring a few essentials, like a mini perfume, Chanel Chance is my favourite. Also my MAC face powder so I can touch up my t-zone.
Jim: Its pretty simple for me, nothing changes.

What are you race-day survival tips?

Nadia: Drink lots of water, the races days can get very warm and long so come prepared with party feet, they are a life saviour at the end of the day when your feet are sore.
Jim: A good antiperspirant, it can get pretty hot out there.

What are the essentials in your bag on a race day?

Nadia: I carry eye drops as my eyes start to sting by the end of the day. Bobby pins to fix my hair under my headwear, portable iPhone charger, mini perfume to keep you fresh and my favourite lippy.
Jim: Credit Card, license and tickets.

Any tips for avoiding last minute wardrobe disasters?

Nadia: Have a plan B, as you never know what can happen last minute. The Iconic’s 3-hour delivery is a life saviour for wardrobe malfunctions. You can always return your outfit if you don’t wear it. It’s all about preparation.
Jim: Try your suit on a week before so you can double-check it fits and you aren’t left with any surprises on the day.
