How to Nail The Mindful Cocktail Trend

In an era of rising prices and packed social calendars, many people are embracing a more mindful approach to cocktails. Rather than ordering rounds without thinking, the focus has shifted towards drinks that are savoured — thoughtfully mixed, well-balanced and enjoyed in good company. It’s less about quantity and more about the small ritual of the drink itself, whether that’s recreating a classic at home or lingering over one beautifully made cocktail with friends.

Sweet, citrusy and softly frothy, the Amaretto Sour strikes that perfect balance between indulgent and approachable. The almond warmth of Disaronno meets bright lemon juice, a touch of sugar and a silky dash of egg white to create a drink that feels a little bit special, even when you’re simply mixing it at your own kitchen bench. It’s the kind of cocktail that turns a casual catch-up into something just a little more memorable.

Interestingly, this renewed love for simple, well-balanced classics is playing out beyond the home, too. Around Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Disaronno has been celebrating the drink with its roaming “Bar on Wheels” — a theatrical tableside cocktail experience currently popping up at venues including Cibaria, In Situ and Cumberland before finishing at Felons Brewing Co. While the travelling activation brings a touch of Italian aperitivo culture to local bars, the beauty of the Amaretto Sour is that it’s just as satisfying to shake up yourself.

Here’s how to make it.

INGREDIENTS

  • 60ml Disaronno
  • 30ml fresh lemon juice
  • 10ml sugar syrup
  • 1 dash egg white

Garnish:

  • Slice of lemon
  • Cherry

INSTRUCTIONS

Dry shake all ingredients first to create a smooth, velvety texture, then add ice and shake again. Double strain into a glass and garnish with a slice of lemon and a cherry.
