Beauty Editor Picks: Wrinkle Creams That Really Work

Wrinkle creams always promise the anti-ageing world, but do they really work?

Wrinkles are an unfortunate, however, inevitable part of the ageing process, and as we grow older, we spend a good part of our beauty life trying to combat them.

But what exactly should we be looking for when it comes to smoothing out those unwanted lines?

Actives, first and foremost. Look for line-busting ingredients like retinol, collagen and hyaluronic acid (the ingredient used for fillers) when waging the war on wrinkles.

It’s skincare with a higher IQ; these four creams are worth dipping your fingers into.

Samadara Ultimate Age-Defying Crème

You may know Rose Quartz as the pretty pink crystal, but did you know it also beheld wrinkle-busting powers? Created by Sodashi’s Megan Larsen, this is their most powerful anti-ageing treatment yet. Five years in the making, this unique alchemy of pure plant ingredients and rose quartz crystal water promotes the skin’s own natural healing abilities from within, delivering exceptional results. This anti-ageing formulation dramatically boosts skin cell renewal to tone and smooth the skin, which means a more smoothed-out guise. Antioxidant rich plant oils Centella, Rose, Everlasting and Rosehip deeply nourish and protect the skin whilst the vibrational properties of rose quartz crystal water alleviate stressors from the body that cause cellular ageing. Slather those wrinkles away.

La Prairie Anti-Aging Rapid Response Booster

An anti-wrinkle list is not complete without the holy grail of anti-ageing, La Prairie. With the range wholly dedicated to turning back the clock, pick your wrinkle poison wisely. Try this line-filling, gel-based serum, which reduces the depth and length of wrinkles in just two weeks (quick and effective? Yes, please!). As La Prairie’s most accelerated wrinkle interceptor to date, it works using a speedy delivery system of active peptides that target the cells exactly where needed the most.

Linda Meredith LM1

Good news for us, bad news for your wrinkles, UK based Celebrity Facialist, Linda Meredith – who counts Kate Beckinsale, Sienna Miller and Gwyneth Paltrow as loyal clients – has just made her skincare available in Australia. The most potent pick of the bunch? The LM1 cream, her ultimate anti-ageing weapon. With results skin-deep after just thirty days, the oil free, lightweight cream basically tricks your skin into behaving younger, which means less lines, less wrinkles and firmer-feeling skin (smart, hey?). Meredith purports the importance of actives, but argues they are only effective in high levels. Enter the LM1, your wrinkles new worst enemy (and your best friend).

Kiehl’s Apothecary Preparations

Ever thought a cream sounded fabulous and foolproof when reading its shiny packaging, however was not tailored to your specific skin concerns? Think again, beauty buffs. Apothecary aficionados, Kiehl’s, have just launched their first-ever customised facial concentrate. Head to your nearest Kiehl’s counter and ask for the Wrinkle Reducing Complex with Retinol Concentrate and Pro-Retinol (along with one other super duper concentrate according to your facial needs). Retinol (Vitamin A) is a well-known “gold standard” anti-ageing ingredient which increases skin density, whilst Pro-retinol (Vitamin A Palmitate) is its lesser-known, but equally hard-working partner in crime. Healthy skin naturally stores Vitamin A for later use in the form of Pro-Retinol 4,5. In fact, Retinyl Palmitate is the major form of Vitamin A found in the epidermis, and when needed, Pro-Retinol is converted into Retinol to help skin fight ageing and diminish the appearance of wrinkles. Take that, wrinkly skin.

La Mer Crème de la Mer

Legendary in skincare folklore, La Mer’s Crème de la Mer has long been on high rotation in beauty cupboards everywhere, and for good reason, it works. Tapping into the wonders of the sea, their famed ‘Miracle Broth’ component specifically targets lines and wrinkles; a magical blend of nutrient-rich Pacific sea kelp and other minerals and oils, they are bio-fermented for three months. Its creator, Dr. Max Huber, suffered burns from an experiment, and sought to find a cosmetic remedy – which he did, and after 6,000 experiments and visibly restored skin, Crème de la Mer was born. A little tip in its application; the crème must be warmed for a few seconds between the fingers until it becomes translucent, then pressed gently into the skin to unlock its wrinkle-fighting powers.

What are your favourite anti-wrinkle creams?

Chrisanthi Kaliviotis

With her lyrical turn of phrase and penchant for uber-glamour, Chrisanthi Kaliviotis is in her element writing about beauty for The Carousel, while weaving in fun fashion and pop culture references. She also loves a road test, so we send many of the new hair tools that arrive her way (she actually knows how to use them). Have you seen that hair?
