Can we get a show of hands from anyone who’s still using their pressies from Xmas 2022? If yours is still down, don’t feel too bad. You actually fall into the majority. In fact, curated gifting company RedBalloon recently revealed that over half of Australians (59% to be precise) don’t remember what they received for Christmas last year! Fortunately, for those who are not a fan of forgettable gifts (among them bath and personal care products, clothing, and food and drinks – judged bland by 44%, 36% and 23% of Aussies respectively), RedBalloon’s range of memorable Christmas gift ideas is perfect for anyone who is on your nice list. Especially if they like dining experiences, wellness getaways and even luxury fast car drives. A little concerned about gifting a loved one something you can’t see for yourself? We rolled up our maxi skirt and recently embarked on a seaplane adventure over stunning Sydney. Our aim: to give you an idea of what the lucky recipient of one of RedBalloon’s memorable Christmas gift ideas can expect. (Even if that person is you!)
Checked in and cleared for takeoff
If there was ever a place to stop and smell the roses (or salty seawater), it would be Rose Bay. The elegant Eastern Suburbs hot spot that served as the launching pad for our “RedBallon Seaplane Flight with 3 Course Lunch and Bubbly”. Sure, the thought of soaring over scenic Sydney set my heart aflutter. But the sight of the tiny plane also had a similar effect on my anxious tummy. Fortunately, the super professional team was absolutely perfect in reassuring me of the safety of the excursion. Leaving the most dangerous part of the day boarding the flight in my sky high heels. (Note to self: opt for glam flats should the opportunity ever arise again!).
On cloud 10/10
There’s not a whole lot you can do in half an hour … But seeing the best of Sydney from the sky is not one of them. In fact, with RedBallon’s seaplane flight itinerary, I was able to cross off many of the city’s iconic attractions in less time than it takes to roast a chook.
Sydney-born-and-raised I had prided myself on the fact that I knew the Harbour City like the back of my hand. But, it turns out that wasn’t completely accurate until you see it from above. Following a seamless takeoff, I was lucky enough to spend the next 30 minutes soaring over the city. And take in the same sights I had only ever previously enjoyed on foot. These included: Shark Island, Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park, and the golden Northern beaches – spanning from Manly all the way to Avalon.
And, if this jaded local was impressed, we can only imagine the awe of an out-of-towner. Making this trip an excellent gift idea for a friend visiting over the holidays. No?
Clearly a fan of the concept of “saving the best for last” our pilot spoilt us on descent with a scenic circuit around Sydney’s CBD. Where the magnificent Harbour Bridge and Opera House unfolded beneath like the architectural wonders that they are. Before we eventually and gracefully landed back at Rose Bay – feet on the ground, but head still firmly in the clouds.
From flight to feast
If RedBallon’s seaplane flight has served as the main course of a magical day, then our post-descent dining experience at Empire Lounge would surely qualify as dessert. (Although technically we were actually treated to an entirely decadent three-course meal!). With a glass of bubbly on arrival, a seafood-focused menu – including my personal favourite: kingfish aguachile served with tostadas and avocado, and front-row seats to Sydney’s harbour (which we were clearly still hungry for!), the only thing clearer than the views that spanned out in front of us was the power of RedBallon to sleigh Secret Santa when it comes to memorable Christmas gift ideas this season.
