And we’re off! The first show of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week ticked all the boxes we’ve come to expect from this well established event. Glamour, great fashion and gorgeous people.
Not even the torrential rain could keep guests at home on an awful Sunday night, but I’m sure it put a damper on their outfit plans. What did they do? Pull out their wintry best, that’s what.
Paula Abdul rocked up in a simple black suit with sparkly top underneath. My favourite thing is her hair in a giant, messy topknot. It makes the whole thing effortless and says “I don’t have to look perfect because I’m a huge star plus it’s raining so my hair might frizz, lump it.”
Rachael Finch is all tawny-limbed, showing off shoulders and decolletage in sheer mesh – the perfect hybrid fabric for when you want to cover up for the rain but don’t want to go too heavy just yet as it’s only April, after all.
Emma Lung disregarded the weather completely, as actresses are want to do, and went with her (I’m assuming) scheduled outfit. Love the skater skirt dress, it’s the new shape for spring. The chunky necklace is a perfect accent to the plain neckline while the green shoes make it not too matchy matchy.
Oooh, Jesinta Campbell, how brave you are. She’s channelled SJP by teaming the black bra under a sheer white shirt but I’m not sure even Carrie would have gone this sheer with black lace. I’d be more inclined to wear a plain black bra, rather than a pretty one. From the waist down however, it’s perfection. Love the gold band on the pants and those shoes are amazing.
Charlotte Best (from Puberty Blues) wears all Carla Zampatti, showing that the designer is not just for older women which I think is a common misconception. A leather jacket over a leather tank and black and white skirt are funked up with a hat, leaving that lush hair to cascade down beautifully.
