You may even catch a glimpse of a local turtle! Or to truly immerse yourself, visit the Big Buddah, an impressive white Burmese marble-layered statue that stands at 45 meters and is the island’s symbol of hope.

# 10 It’s tantalising treat for little tastebuds

Even fussy little eaters will delight in the local cuisine, with seven dining options to choose from. For sweet tooths, savour the coconut ice-cream, mango and sticky rice with sweet coconut milk and banana fritters. Fruit lovers will salivate over the endless array of fresh fruits, from the local durian fruit to melons, sweet lady finger bananas, pineapple, guava and lychee. Just add a straw for fresh juices! At Baan Talay, the focus is on traditional Thai dining with juicy local seafood served in a stunning restaurant, the epitome of traditional Thai architecture, and overlooking the lagoon. The fish cakes are out of this world, and for mini seafood aficionados, they’ll be full to the brim on one giant BBQ prawn, squid, and other local fresh catches.

Of course for those developed palettes, traditional Thai cuisine bursting with lemongrass, bay leaves, galangal, chilli, coriander and other popular spices don’t get better than in Thailand and options are available at every eatery. TIP: The accommodating chefs are more than happy to oblige with tamer versions for sensitive palettes. Bonus: Kids get to eat for free while Mum and Dad recharge with a refreshing massage treatment.
