Easter Movies … there doesn’t seem to be an abundance of them in the same way there is Christmas flicks. However the four day weekend is perfect for lazing in front of the telly and binging movies. In the spirit of the season, we thought we’d round up some of our favourite Easter Movies (or as close in theme as possible) for you to enjoy. Just grab your chocolate, a good bottle of vino and relax!

Easter Movies For Kids

HOP

Fred (James Marsden) who has never taken life seriously, unintentionally injures an Easter Bunny (Russel Brand) and is forced to take him in as a guest. Soon, hilarity ensues as they struggle to deal with the situation. With bunnies, chickens and an enormous Wonka-esque CGI candy factory, it’s also got jokes aplenty that kids and adults alike will find hysterical.

The Dog Who Saved Easter

Zeus the labrador doesn’t get to on the family Easter holiday. Instead, he gets to stay at the local doggie boarding kennel. When a criminal breaks in intent on destryong the business, Zeus jumps in the save the day!

Peter Rabbit

Peter has a bit of a reputation as a mischief maker amongst the other bunnies. In this gorgeous portrayal of a classic story, Peter ventures out of the garden and finds himself in a world where mischief is appreciated, and many adventures unfold!


Movies For Adults

The Life Of Brian

This cult comedy by the hilarious Monty Python team never gets old. Described as absurd, irreverent and goofy, which is absolutely is, it’s bound to put a smile on your dial this Easter, or at any time of the year, really.

Hank and Mike
The friendship of two Easter bunnies starts to suffer when the corporation that owns all holidays decides to make some serious cutbacks.

Easter Parade

Judy Garland and Fred Astaire star in this movie centred around a love triangle between dancers, which culminates in a proposal at the Easter parade in this box office smash musical.

Of course, we can’t forget the reason for the season, so this list encompasses some leading religious based Easter Movies.

Jesus Christ, Superstar

Based on the Broadway play with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, this rock opera details Jesus Christ’s last week on earth, and it will be streamed on You Tube this Easter! It will be available from Good Friday at 7pm BST, 2pm ET or 11 am PT. It will be available for 48 hours via “The Shows Must Go On!” YouTube channel.

Ben Hur

This 1959 American religious epic film directed by William Wyler, produced by Sam Zimbalist, and starring Charlton Heston as the title character, is a classic religious film in its own right, but is especially relevant on Easter. In it, we see the life and crucifixion of Christ through his interactions with Judah Ben-Hur, a Jewish prince who’s been wrongfully imprisoned.

The Greatest Story Ever Told
Starring Max Von Sydow, John Wayne, Charlton Heston, Sidney Poitier and Shelley Winters, this is a grand-scale portrayal of the life of Jesus Christ.

The Prince Of Egypt

In this highly acclaimed animated movie, two brothers named Moses and Rameses grow up to be the best of friends. However, when one of them becomes a ruler and the other chooses to live for the people, their friendship turns bitter.
