In Sydney to promote the February 11 launch of Zoolander 2 in Australia, Derek Zoolander, aka Ben Stiller, strutted his way to an unofficial highest catwalk record atop the city’s iconic harbour bridge.
Striking his signature blue steel look while dressed in a custom head-to-toe creation by Australian designers Ksubi x Don Atari, Derek showed he can still pull out the old magic when he needs it most.
The short YouTube video below of the occasion, was shot with the Opera House in the background, creating arguably the most scenic catwalk yet for the “so hot right now” model.
Even supermodel Heidi Klum, who is in Australia to launch her Heidi Klum Intimates range at David Jones, made time in her busy schedule to pose up with her ‘mentor’ at the fun fan launch of the film on Australia Day.
“Ben Stiller, he is the coolest,” gushes Heidi, who appeared in the original film but not the eagerly anticipated sequel.
“I’ve been modelling for over 20 years now but he got the Blue Steel down like there’s no one else.
“You know what, I feel like after that all those Instagram photos that girls are doing where they do the duck face and are pouting like that, he started it all 15 years ago.”
Ben told The Australian that he hopes the rise of the selfie and social media since the first film was released in 2001 will help pull in a younger audience to augment the committed fan base.
“In this culture now, the selfie world, where everyone is turning the camera on themselves, it sort of resonates,” he says.
While he admits the first film caught the big-names off-guard, he also says it was much easier to wrangle cameos for the sequel.
Along with the stalwarts of the fashion arena — Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs, Anna Wintour — there are brief appearances by everyone from Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Ariana Grande to John Malkovich and Susan Sarandon.
