Melbourne Fashion Week Shines A Light On Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Designers

Day three of the Melbourne Fashion Week will see Pop Up Runway 2 focusing on the themes of self-determination in action and black voices through fashion, showcasing a diverse selection of established and emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander brands. Melbourne Fashion Week

Some of these brands include TradingBLAK, Gillawarra Arts, Ginny’s Girl Gang, Jarin Street, Nungala Creative and Take Pride Movement. The models will Models will rove at locations of Aboriginal significance including Birrarung Marr, Federation Square, Southbank and the Promenades of the Yarra River.

This evening the show will be running from the SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium in King Street, Melbourne, from 6pm, 7.30pm and 9pm.

The runway will feature an underwater backdrop from the aquarium which will keep audiences mesmerised. They fashion on show will focus on sustainability, with local designers featured including ELK, búl, SZN and Sister Studios.

Melbourne Fashion WeekLast night’s show

Last night, fashion and art merged with an immersive runway experience within the gallery spaces of National Gallery of Victoria at the Ian Potter Centre in Federation Square. Guests moved through the gallery space and viewed looks from J’Aton Couture, Carla Zampatti, ALPHA60, Romance Was Born, Maticevski, Christine, Reina Melbourne and dot COMME.

Melbourne Fashion Week runs from 15th to 21st November and features more than 250 designers and 300 retailers across 100 different events and sessions.
