How To Wear Bronze In Winter

For Cheeks

“Use a cream highlighter on the high point of the cheekbone to help this area pop.  I find using the fingertips to apply and blend gives the most natural finish,” says makeup artist Hayley Dutton. “If you are looking for a little more VAVOOM, apply a light and bright powder bronzer with a fan brush and sweep across the high point of the cheekbone.” Try Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Beige, $72

Tips:

  • For a fresh natural summer glow in the winter keep it natural and light.  Try using creamy products to achieve this barely-flushed cheek.
  • Apply a cream blush or bronzer just under the highlighter – this should cover the cheekbone and a small part of the apples of the cheeks.  Again use your fingertips to apply and blend.

For Eyes

“Start with your favourite eye primer or paint pot to create a long lasting base and apply this over the entire eyelid,” says Dutton. “Follow with your favourite bronzer using your eyeshadow brush and apply all over the eyelid. You can blend this up slightly into the crease. Then bring this shade down along the bottom lash line.”

“Select an eyeshadow shade about two or three shades darker – you can go for a deeper bronzer, a brown, charcoal or deep purple – and apply to the outer corner of the eyes.  Think about a C shape and go from the outer corner of the eye and to a third of the way in.” Try Covergirl Eye Shadow Quad in Go For The Golds, $14.95

Tips:

  • To really open up the eye, add a powder illuminator to the inner corner of each eye with a pointed pencil brush.
  • For extra definition use a dark brown or black pencil liner along the top lash line.  If you want to keep it more natural you can smudge this out with a smudger brush.
  • Two coats of mascara to the top and bottom lashes are the perfect way to finish this look.

For Lips

“To really emphasise your pout, use a pointed pencil brush and apply either a cream or powder illuminiser to your cupids bow.  You can bring this down two-thirds of the way down the lip for extra plumping power.”

“The best way to keep this bronzed goddess look balanced, is to team your cheek and lip colour. If you have used cream blush or bronzer apply to the lips also, if not then find a really soft pink, peach, apricot or nude lipstick, glass or stain and apply.” Try Givenchy Gloss Interdit in Impertinent Nude, $42 (Available at Sephora)
