How To Use Stunning Pots And Planters To Complete Your Outdoor Space
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

When looking at designing a home’s interior, it’s the accessories we choose that make or break how a space feels: they can add personality, depth and an individuality that all goes together to make a house feel like a home.

And it’s the same when creating a successful garden. Pots and planters help play an essential role in finishing and layering our spaces and add that final finishing touch.

Of course, in some instances gardens are made entirely using pots and planters – and it’s important to get it right!

Here are a few simple key designer’s tips that will ensure your garden is a true success!

Odd Vs Even every time:

choose a grouping of three or five planters of different sizes to create an interesting composition. Varying the heights and using a variety in the plants really works. You can play with different compositions in the store and then select the ones that resonate with you. Another option in a more formal setting is to use a pair of pots, then soften the look slightly by using odd number of other objects.

Same same same – works!

In the same way mass planting, can give strength and structure in a garden, a series of the same three or five pots will create a sense of continuity, consistency and connection.

Think BIG:

In small spaces avoid using small pots – do the opposite! Bigger is absolutely best – The play with scale tricks the eye and gives visual drama and form. Use just one pot, with the perfect plant specimen, almost like a piece of outdoor artwork.

It’s all in the finish:

Pots now come in all shapes and sizes, so select a finish and style that works with your interior and style –it’s good to contrast colour or texture. So, if you have lots of smooth rendered walls, select a pot with a finish that stands out from the surface behind – a whitewashed Turkish planter or a wood fired ceramic pot for example.
