For some there may be underlying tension that is eventually aired in a public display of emotion or perhaps it will spell immense revelry, bonding and a fine day to remember. If you’d prefer the latter clear the air before swapping gifts.

Here are some tips on how to maximise the energy of the Full Moon in Cancer as well as navigate stormy seas during this dramatic and exciting period, regardless of your sign:

Spend quality time with mum or a mother figure
Cancer is the sign associated with motherhood and femininity. If it’s been a while since you really bonded with your mother due to conflicting schedules or personalities, put everything aside and make her your priority, at least for a few hours. It is Xmas so if that’s absolutely impossible at least make firm plans for a proper catch up doing something you’ll know she’ll enjoy. Visit an art gallery, arrange high tea or go for a swim, anything that pays tribute to her and makes her feel special.

Bask in motherhood
All parents are guilty at some stage or another of being there, but not present. Focus your energy on your children and live in the moment with them 100%. If you are planning to fall pregnant it’s a good time to surround yourself with nieces, nephews and friends’  babies to get a taste of parenthood.

Get in touch with your feelings
Some signs wear their hearts on their sleeve or are very open about how they feel. Others are more reserved about revealing their emotions. When the Moon is full emotions are already heightened and here in sensitive Cancer, the sign that it rules, the energy will be twice as profound making this a great time to dig deep and connect with your emotional self. Write down your feelings, pour your heart out to a wise friend or simply have a good cry – it’s not a sign of weakness simply a form of expression and will be very cathartic.

Cleanse your soul
There’s nothing like a swim to dust off the cosmic cobwebs and cleanse your aura. Saltwater really is the best way to reboot your energy so forget your own pool or the local pool and plunge into your favourite swimming spot. Submerge yourself and listen to your breath – you’ll emerge feeling revitalised, centred and strong. If you can’t make it to a natural body of water fill your tub with Epsom salts and have a candlelit bath.

Take a trip down memory lane
As Cancer is the most sentimental sign of the zodiac you’re bound to be hit with a wave of nostalgia during this period. Call an old childhood friend to wish them happy holidays, dig through old photo albums with the family or retell those stories you’ve all heard a thousand times but nonetheless bring smiles to everyone’s faces.

Reach out to your family
Even Crabs who aren’t particularly close to their family generally have a very tight knit circle that they call family. Blood or not, show the people in your life how much you care about them. Yes, you’ll probably already be giving cards and gifts on this day but a special look, extra love in a hug or kind words will melt their heart.

Curb your mood swings
Okay, just because it’s Xmas day and a Full Moon in one of the moodiest signs this doesn’t give you cosmic carte blanche to act like a brat. Acknowledge that you’re feeling a certain way and while you shouldn’t suppress those emotions know that they are, to some degree, celestially-induced. If you feel a tantie coming on politely excuse yourself and go to your happy place, chant “calm blue ocean”, count to ten, whatever gets you through. Having a wing buddy who makes you laugh will also help!
