Valentine’s Day is almost here, and this year as an added bonus it’s coupled with February’s full moon. It’s a perfect time to look to the stars for your love match – and with the full moon being in Leo, more passion and affection is coming!

Horoscopes play an important role in relationship compatibility and with the full moon appearing in Leo around the same time this year – it’s time to let your lion loose!

Leo is the lion of the Zodiac and is big hearted and loving. While Leo likes to be the ‘boss of the wash,’ he also likes to let loose. So, Valentine’s Day is a great time to take on board lunar energy while ‘love in the air’.

If you are single or have a partner – it doesn’t matter! It’s a perfect time to be courageous like the lion and let love in.

Astrology: Your Monthly Horoscopes

Leo also likes to be in control and is ruled by the sun – bringing with it warmth and a spark of light creating insight and awareness for our love lives.

Passion, affection and loving energy will run deeply just after Valentine’s Day to just after the Full Moon on February 17th.

In astrology we say the sun is a planet. Of course, these days we know it is a star, so obviously Leos can be very powerful people.

By consulting our zodiac signs (individual break-down below) we can see who we are generally compatible or incompatible with.

We can also look at the elements – Earth, Fire, Air and Water in connection with astrology to be more specific.

Your star sign Mode is also important – astrology is based on the seasons, with Cardinal signs marking the beginning of seasons, followed by Fixed signs in the middle of the season and Mutable signs at the end of the season.

While all star signs will be affected by Leo’s influence this Valentine’s Day, Leos (a Fixed Fire sign) will be particularly affected, along with other Fixed signs Taurus, Scorpio and Aquarius.

Fixed zodiac signs have the stamina to see things through, usually because they’re so focused that they can achieve anything but sometimes they tend towards stubbornness.

If you know your time, date and place of birth, your astrology can be very accurate, and you can then find out your Ascendant (or Rising sign) and your Moon sign.

Your Ascendant is the sign that was on the eastern horizon when you were born, and it will tell you where in life you’re headed and how people perceive you.

Your Moon sign gives details of the real inner you that you tend to keep hidden from the outside world.

Mercury has been direct from February 4th, and will move back into Aquarius on the 14th, which likely means a more unconventional, innovative and communicative Valentine’s Day affecting Gemini, Virgo and Aquarius most strongly.

Also, with Pluto trine the north node in Taurus on Valentine’s Day, there’s something fated or karmic which is quite deep and compelling.

This is your true destiny and Taureans may feel obsessed with something or someone! Librans and Scorpios could also be strongly affected.

When can you see this month’s full moon in Leo? It will be reaching its peak on Thursday, January 17th at 3.56am AEST, but will be seen in the night sky either side of this time.

Here are Ms Smith’s tips for star sign general compatibility according to both Element and Mode. If you know your Ascendant (or rising sign) and your Moon sign, you should also read these.

Zodiac Sign
Zodiac Sign

Aries (March 21 to April 19): is a masculine or ‘yang’ fiery Cardinal sign meaning Arians are generally active, passionate and independent with strong opinions. They need partners who understand them and don’t try to dampen their fiery nature so other fire signs Aries, Leo and Sagittarius can make good partners, but arguments are still quite likely. Air signs Gemini, Libra and Aquarius feed fire but Libra is opposite Aries on the zodiac wheel so this match could bring some difficulties. Aquarius and Gemini are the best bets!  Challenging relationships are likely with Mutable signs Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. Aries is both a Mutable Fire sign, so relationships with other Aries are a ‘mixed bag’.

Taurus (April 20 to May 20): is a feminine ‘yin’ earthy Fixed sign so Taureans are generally inward focused, practical and self-directed, verging on stubbornness sometimes! Relationships with Earth signs Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn can work but care needs to be taken that these matches don’t get bogged down in the mud with feelings of depression or being stuck in a rut. Relationships with Water signs Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces can add emotional connection, which is needed for balance, but Scorpio’s opinions can bring clashes. Cancer brings added nurturance and is usually a good choice. Virgo and Capricorn relationships can work, however relationships with Fixed Mode signs Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius present issues, especially if both partners are set in their ways.

Gemini (May 21 to June 20): is a ‘yang’ Mutable Air sign making Geminis outgoing, communicative and flexible. Geminis can be quite intellectual and like to think and strategise about most things. They get on well with other Geminis and fellow Air signs Libra and Aquarius where there’s lots of conversation, some level of detachment can occur. But sometimes this is a good thing. Fire signs Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are attractive but with mutable Sagittarius there are tendencies for mega change – like it or not. A Leo match could work out well. Other Mutable signs Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces can present issues with lots of changing of minds and changing of goalposts!

Cancer (June 21 to July 22): is a ‘yin’ Cardinal Water sign so Cancerians are usually self-reflective, emotional, pioneering or instigating. They find support with Water signs Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces; however, these unions can be very emotional and hard work sometimes. Earth signs Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn can supply the grounding that emotional Cancer needs to thrive, but Capricorn can be too serious or conservative for Cancer’s liking. Virgo or Taurus make good prospects. Cardinal signs Aries, Libra and Capricorn like to get things going but challenges do arise when trying to keep on keeping on and commitment could be an issue.

Leo (July 23 to August 22): is a ‘yang’ Fixed Fire sign which is outgoing, warm and often has strong opinions. Though good relationships are possible with Leos and other Fire signs Sagittarius and Aries, arguments can quickly blow up as Fire signs can be emotionally volatile. Unions with Air signs Gemini, Libra and Aquarius can work well, especially with Libra where harmony and passion are ignited. Fixed signs Taurus, Scorpio and Aquarius tend towards fixed opinions which can create conflict and stubbornness. Relationships with other Leos can boil down to who will be the ‘boss of the wash’.

Virgo (August 23 to September 22): is a ‘yin’ Mutable Earth sign which is thoughtful, careful and discriminating. Virgo can enjoy good relations with Earth signs Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn but they should guard against the relationship getting stuck in a rut or boredom setting in. Watery emotional energy in Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces can offer a real sense of connection and sometimes Mutable Gemini, Sagittarius and Pisces can present too much change or emotionality. Scorpio relations could be quite good, but Aries can present constant adjustments. Other Virgos can work as there are often strong similarities.

Libra (September 23 to October 22): is a ‘yang’ Cardinal Air sign loving beauty, peace but most of all love! Libra is indeed in love with the idea of love and can enjoy wonderful relationships with other Air signs including Libra, Gemini and Aquarius. Occasionally, there’s a degree of detachment especially with Aquarius but stimulating mental energy adds fuel to these relationships. Fire signs Aries, Leo and Sagittarius can also make good partners. However, there can be strong clashes especially with bold Aries. Leo is likely to be quite attractive. Cardinal Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn are a ‘mixed bag’, and conflict can occur regularly.

Scorpio (October 23 to November 21): is a ‘yin’ Fixed Water sign focusing on inner reflection and intense emotions. Scorpios are often ‘magnetically attractive’, and Water Signs Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces make good partners. There can be a lot of emotionality in these relationships taking both partners down deep into subconscious waters. Earth signs Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn help ground Scorpio in practical reality, but Taurus can seem somewhat conservative to Scorpio. Virgo and Capricorn could make excellent partners. Fixed signs Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius need to go with the flow more to get the best out of these relationships.

Sagittarius (November 22 to December 21): is a ‘yang’ Mutable Fire sign being adventurous and expansive. Sagittarius enjoys freedom and needs an open-minded partner so Fire signs Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are good potential partners, although relations with Fire signs can bring both passion and volatility. Relationships with Air signs Gemini, Libra and Aquarius can work very well. However, sometimes fiery clashes will occur with Gemini which is also a Mutable sign. Other Mutables – Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces also have issues as being mutable can bring many changes to the relationship.

Capricorn (December 22nd to January 19): is a ‘yin’ Cardinal Earth sign being solid, dependable and generally hardworking. Relationships with Earth signs Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn can work well as you both work towards the same things. There is a risk of these unions being bogged down by work commitments, seriousness and a general lack of joie de vivre. Ideally, you could have more fun with Water signs Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces which complement Capricorn. Cancer matches can often bring too much emotionality for Capricorns, so Scorpio and Pisces are better partnership bets. Capricorn and other Cardinal signs Aries, Cancer, Libra come with ‘conditions’.

Aquarius (January 20th to February 18):  is a ‘yang’ Fixed Air sign being sociable, innovative and humanitarian. Air signs Gemini and Libra make good partners, and the only risk is that you talk for hours and hours and don’t get much done! Fire signs Aries, Leo and Sagittarius can also make great partners, but Fixed Leo can sometimes seem a bit overly opinionated for Aquarius. Other Fixed signs Taurus and Scorpio probably don’t have enough flexibility for Aquarius. Your sign Aquarius is a bit of a ‘mixed bag’, you get on well but sometimes butt heads as neither wants to change their mind.

Pisces (February 19 to March 20): is a ‘yin’ Mutable Water sign being emotional, intuitive and creative. Water signs Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces are suitable for deep and passionate relationships however sometimes there’s too much emotion coming to the surface, meaning grounding and practicality can be lacking. Earth signs Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn provide stability and reality bringing balance, but Virgo may find Pisces intensity a bit much, putting you on an emotional roller coaster!  Mutable signs Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius can present issues especially around decision making and the structures that Pisces need.
