A pink supermoon will be gracing our skies next week… the first of only two extra big, extra bright supermoons this year.
The supermoon’s appearance on Tuesday, April 27th, will be visually impressive (despite it not actually being pink!), but it will also have some special flow on effects for our star signs.
A supermoon is a name given to a full moon when it is closest to earth, and astrologically it is associated with rebirth and renewal.
Supermoons are somewhat rare, happening about once every 12 to 14 months, although this year we’re lucky to get two. The second will be visible just one month after the first, so this is unusual.
Spiritually, supermoons are all about transformation and bringing up subconscious content for us to deal with – it means it’s time for a purge. What this means for you as an individual is reflected by your star sign.
Depending what house your star sign is in, behaviours, arguments, past traumas – may all come to the forefront. It’s a time to deal with issues but be mindful of channelling them in the correct way.
Ultimately the spiritual effects of a supermoon are positive because an individual’s issues needed to be dealt with in the correct way, rather than pushed down into the body.
The moon affects the ocean tides, as we are composed mostly of water, it affects us in some way, whether that be emotionally or physically.
All celestial bodies – planets, asteroids and the like have an important influence both psychologically and spiritually on all living things.
Despite its name, the moon will not actually appear pink in the sky. Its name comes from the wildflower pink phlox that blooms in the US at this time of year.
Most full moons get their names from Native American tribes, which generally gave distinctions to moons based on the time of year and the weather’s relationships to crop harvests.
Providing there’s little cloud cover, you’ll have no problem seeing the pink moon across Australia on April 27th, as it will be shining brightly and largely most of the night.
But supermoons appear bigger when close to the horizon so viewing it at sunset as it rises will be the best time – although it will be at peak luminescence late in the evening. Look for a wide-open space, with as little sky pollution as possible.
On average, supermoons are about 7% bigger and about 15% brighter than a typical full moon.
Tips for each star sign during the supermoon period:
Aries (March 21 to April 19): It’s a great time to take a short break away as the supermoon is asking you to broaden your horizons. Perhaps study or travel is on your agenda? Your life can become larger now and you can also expand your mind. Your Spirituality may also feature more strongly as you look at the big picture. Don’t be afraid to try new things and change your thinking!
Taurus (April 20 to May 20): You may have concerns about money and joint assets. Perhaps intimacy is on your mind also. An intense emotional life is likely so don’t overreact to a situation. Transformation is at hand! Your partner’s income could change, or you may seek a loan. Shared resources and intimacy are highlighted now.
Gemini (May 21 to June 20): Feed your important relationships now and pay special attention to the women in your life because your female connections are being transformed. Your committed relationships e.g., wife, husband or business partner are also highlighted for change. Subconscious forces could influence situations and any legalities could undergo significant change. Female relatives or the public may also feature.
Cancer (June 21 to July 22): There’s transformation around your health, wellbeing or everyday work. Get on with the job but don’t forget to really feel your feelings. Be practical but stuffing feelings down into your body will only see them come back to haunt you at a later time. Even though your emotions could be a bit all over the show, honour them and treat yourself well.
Leo (July 23 to August 22): Now it’s time to come out of your shell. Express yourself and allow your real feelings to come out. You could be quite playful, enjoying games, being creative and perhaps even romance is on the cards! There’s transformation in your inner child zone so get out, have some fun and socialise.
Virgo (August 23 to September 22): Your desire for comfort and security at home is greater than usual. Matters with home and family are emphasised now, especially concerning female relatives. Transformation in your domestic sphere is likely, so you might renovate or do some long overdue home maintenance. Family can experience various changes now.
Libra (September 23 to October 22): There’s a change in the way you communicate or perhaps in your local community. You may be thinking about studying or promoting yourself in some way. There’s a possibility of hearing from siblings or distant family members. Communications are key now so take special care of your devices.
Scorpio (October 23 to November 21): There’s transformation around your money so pay special attention to your finances now. Give yourself a sense of financial security by organising and securing your valuables. It’s not a good time for spending money on a whim but it is a good time to be practical and buy what you really need. Your values might change so what you thought you needed; you realise is not really necessary after all.
Sagittarius (November 22 to December 21): You’re more perceptive and sensitive than usual. Being at home also seems more important to you. Clear thinking might be in short supply, as your core beliefs are changing. That’s ok, stay quiet and peaceful whilst you adjust to your new reality. Seek and you will find…within yourself.
Capricorn (December 22nd to January 19): You may feel more sensitive and intuitive than usual. Now is the time for quiet time and self-reflection. Transformational changes from deep down within emerge so it’s a great time to watch your dreams and write your feelings down. Your deepest belief systems may change as you realise there’s another layer to what you previously thought. Change is good for you now.
Aquarius (January 20th to February 18): You may feel a need for community and friendships. The connections you already have may also deepen. Group efforts and community events, especially with women may appeal to you now. There’s likely to be changes with your friends and groups, new ones may come, and old ones go. Let go of the past to make space for the new. All will be fine.
Pisces (February 19 to March 20): There may be concerns about your career or your public reputation. Whatever you do is likely to become more public, so the world will notice you, whether you want it to or not! Some transformation in your career is likely, you may consider new work which is more self-fulfilling.
The second supermoon is on Wednesday, May 26th which is also the date of a total lunar eclipse, meaning the moon will turn into a super blood moon.
The eclipse begins at 6.47pm AEST and will peak at 9.18pm. This blood moon will be a reddish colour due to earth’s umbra (the darkest, most central part of earth’s shadow) covering the moon. Being able to see both events, however, will depend on clear skies.
