Each day we spend a small fortune on over-the-counter medicine, beauty products and even dieting plans so let’s look at some home remedy hacks.

But did you know you already have many of the ingredients to a slimmer, healthier and more natural you already in the kitchen cupboard?

What’s more, you can make your own remedies at a fraction of the cost of the ones in the shops.

Here are just 9 of my favourites.

1. Honey and lemon weight-loss

It can be so hard to lose weight, but with a simple trick using lemon and honey, you can say goodbye to extra weight. It’s an easy recipe of one teaspoon of honey and two teaspoons of lemon, mixed with a glass of warm water. Drink it on an empty stomach in the morning and you have yourself the perfect detox.

2. Face mask from the fridge

Why spend bundles of money on facials at the spa when you can make them at home? Homemade face masks work wonders, and even some celebrities use them! For dry skin, honey and yogurt are great moisturisers. Depending on your skin type, you can find amazing face mask recipes.

3. Bug bite relief

No one enjoys irritated bug bites that you just can’t stop itching. Natural pastes and liquids made with ingredients you already have in your kitchen are great for reducing swelling. You can use a drop of lavender oil, make a baking soda paste or even apple cider vinegar to reduce the itch.

4. Four thieves apple cider vinegar

Thyme, rosemary, sage, lavender, mint and apple cider vinegar are the ingredients to a legendary recipe originally made by “four thieves.” Once the ingredients are mixed, this concoction is used as a bug repellant and even a liquid medicine for illness.

It also reduces dandruff and even acts as a disinfectant spray for around the house.

5. Fenugreek wrinkle reliever

Fenugreek leaves are a great way to naturally fight wrinkles. The leaves are simply crushed into a paste and mixed with oil. Apply it before bed where you want to remove the wrinkles, and leave it on overnight.

6. Turmeric for dark circles

Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory that also happens to be one of many natural remedies for dark eye circles. Aside from a dark circle-fighting paste, it’s also a common ingredient in meals. Its benefits range from bacteria fighting to helping with digestive issues, and even assists with menstrual cramps.

7. Soothing salt sock

Ear infections can cause awful pain. A soothing salt sock is a natural way to heal an ear infection without antibiotics. One cup of coarse sea salt placed in a clean sock, with a few drops of essential oil (lavender or tea tree), can be heated up for a few minutes by placing the sock in a pan on low/medium heat.

8. Heartburn relief

Heartburn is typically caused by not enough acid in your stomach when you first start to eat something so your stomach accidentally makes too much trying to compensate. A great way to solve this is by drinking a cup of warm water with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with the mother before eating. To make it taste a bit more appealing follow this ACV healthy drink recipe.

9. Elderberry syrup cold cure

Medical elderberry syrup is great when it comes to getting rid of an awful cold or flu. Put together elderberries, water, honey, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and lemon. Simmer the berries until you have a jelly-like substance, then mix it together with the other ingredients and you’ve got yourself medical syrup.
