It was an unexpected surprise late on the day of filming when we thought all the activities for the day were over – but one little girl had other ideas – we were about to witness her very special debut.
Just as the team was leaving the stunning property at sunset a call came through that one of Gooree’s gorgeous bay mares was foaling right at that very moment. We raced back in time to watch the mare ‘Essence To Success’ foal a gorgeous, healthy, bay filly. The foal’s legs were the first to appear while the Stud Mistress Vikki Cannon aided in the process – helping the mother to preserve her strength and ensuring all went well with the new arrival. Vikki has safely delivered over 3,000 foals in the past 32 years and is therefore affectionately known as the ‘Gooree Park Midwife’!
In this video you can watch as it looks up to see its mother’s face for the first time and the tenderness with which the third-time-mum immediately starts to care for her new bub. Continuing the thoroughbred line for which Gooree is renowned, the filly’s sire is Smart Missile, by Fastnet Rock out of Comical Smile (Half-sister to Northern Meteor)
As she celebrates her birthday, the foal is going really well, she has a great temperament and her first year has been full of learning and growing and she has yet to be named.
