As it is only weeks away until Santa visits, our shopping focus turns to Christmas gifts with the average Aussie planning to spend $893 on gifts this season. It seems we are all in when it comes to making 2020 end with a festive celebration.

There is no doubt our normal shopping habits, like our lives, have been impacted by the pandemic.  We have been our watching budgets carefully, but are still set to splurge $17.3 billion spend expected at Christmas, according to a recent study.

As we are in the last week of the November festival of Sales there is still time to bag a bargain at the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales and make your dollar go further.

The trick to making your dollars stretch is planning.  Make a gift list including dollar spend for each gift.  With the coming sales this weekend and most Aussie retailers participating, you will make your dollar go further taking advantage of the Black Friday.  Even if you are not a bargain hunter, most of the places we shop are taking part in the Black Friday sales.  Ebay, Amazon, Catch, Myer, David Jones, Bing Lee and all of our favourite brands have sales.

Although a large part of our holiday season spend is for gifts remember there is also a a large segment of our budget for entertaining. Now is the time to make a list of all of your required supplies and make the most of the specials over the coming weeks at the supermarkets. I always plan a trip to the market for the best bargains on fresh fruit and veg.

Make a list of your supplies too. Check out the Coles and Woolworths 50% bargains each week. It is simple to save a bundle on the entertaining necessities and spread the entertaining cost over several paydays. For celebration drinks, check out your favourite store for specials. Liquor stores such as Dan Murphy and many of the suppliers have aggressive sale pricing so stretch that budget with a little planning.

A Savvy Saving Tip

For Christmas gifts for friends or family, you will not be seeing until after Christmas, buy their gifts at Boxing Day sales. This way you can spread the spend and avoid the credit cards whilst still giving amazing gifts.
