Met Gala Insights from celebrity hairstylist and Philips HairCare ambassador, Paloma Rose Garcia.

The Met Gala is often referred to as “fashion’s biggest night out,” and this year was no excuse. With designers creating sensational “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” inspired outfits, we have seen both extravagant hairstyles stealing the show, and simple, elegant looks worn by our favourite A-list celebrities.  The best celebrity hairstyles from the night including insights on upcoming trends with top tips and hacks for achieving these glamorous runway looks at home

We are dying to try out some of our favourite hairstyles from the runway at our next formal event or special occasion, and they can be easily dressed up with fascinators and accessories, or worn simply for an elegant look.

Kendal Jenner’s slick, smooth ponytail. This look is so diverse as you can wear it in the office and then out to drinks and dinner, or for a formal event to highlight your outfit.
For this look, follow the below steps.

  • Using a medium round brush, section the damp hair into three areas: the bottom nape (from below the ear down), the middle section across the head (temple down) and then the remaining top section (crown). Apply a styling heat protectant and a high-quality dryer such as the Philips Pro Dryer to dry each section of the hair for a smooth finish.
  • Brush hair back into ponytail pulling the bottom section of the hair tightly and tie with a snag-free elastic. For maximum face-lift effect, tie the hair at eye level or slightly above.
  • Pull out the top section of the hair and brush hair through using a natural bristle brush. Add this top half of the hair to the bottom ponytail using another elastic.
  • Glide the Philips Pro Straightener through the hair for a chic, sleek ponytail.
  • To finish, clean up any fly away hairs with hair spray.

Jasmine Sander’s beautiful golden braid looks intricate and delicate, and can easily be worn casually, or with a few little accessories such as the red flower pins, can be created in to an elegant masterpiece. For this look, follow the below steps.

  • Using a medium round brush, section the damp hair into three areas: the bottom nape (from below the ear down), the middle section across the head (temple down) and then the remaining top section (crown). Apply a styling heat protectant and use the Philips Pro Dryer to dry each section of the hair for a smooth finish.
  • Part hair at the centre into two sections.
  • Divide hair of one section into three equal sections. Braid hair back regularly by crossing the right section over the middle and then repeat this move with the left section. Remember to gather additional hair and add it into each part as you move down the braid. Repeat with the second section so you have two braids.
  • Tuck the braids in place at the back of your head and pin with bobby pins. To set, finish off with a light hairspray.

Rita Ora’s sexy, sleek straight look was complemented with a beautiful headpiece. If you are wearing a headpiece or fascinator I would always recommend a simple and elegant hairstyle like Rita Ora’s look or a neat ponytail. Follow the below steps for this gorgeous look:

  • Using a medium round brush, section the damp hair into three areas: the bottom nape (from below the ear down), the middle section across the head (temple down) and then the remaining top section (crown). Apply a styling heat protectant and use the Philips Pro Dryer to dry each section of the hair for a smooth finish.
  • Starting at the nape of the neck, take sections of around 1 inch from the head. Ensuring the hair is brushed, glide straightener, like the Philips Pro Straightener, through each section from top to bottom.
  • Using the Philips EasyShine Ionic Styling Brush, to brush the look out. For that poker-straight hair, comb the hair down very tight onto the head. If you still have some stubborn baby hairs peeking through, apply a little smoothing balm and finish with a glossy shine spray to complete that sleek luxurious finish.

Amanda Seyfried brushed out loose curls to create a soft, angelic look and also paired this with a small crown accessory. This style might seem like it needs 3 hours in hairdressing curlers, but it is actually very easy and achievable at home or before leaving the office. To get this look follow the below steps:

  • Apply a styling heat protectant through the hair, concentrating on the ends. Use the Philips Moisture Protect Hairdryer to roughly blow dry hair through.
  • Using a straightener, like Philips Moisture Protect Straightener, take big 1.5 inch sections of hair and clamp them in at the root vertically to 360 degrees — spin and pull the straightener out to the ends. Alternate direction on every section of hair for perfect waves.
  • Give your waves a tousle to create a natural finish.

Hair style “Do’s and Don’ts” for special events

  • Don’t overcomplicate your hair style. Choose either a straight or curled look and an up-do or loose style to compliment your makeup and outfit. You can then choose to add an accessory, but mixing different styles can end up looking messy or falling out.
  • Do wash your hair the night before styling as hair has settled and is easier to work with. I always recommend shampooing twice before conditioning the ends of your hair so that it stays clean and shiny for longer.
  • Do avoid touching and smoothing your hair as much as possible during an event. The more you touch your hair, the dirtier and gresier it will get, and any curls or up-styles will beging to fall.
