Looking to shake up your style now that the colder months are upon us? We spoke to hair guru Elyston Hayden about the biggest trends of the coming season, and the products to achieve the looks.

Cuts

“Fringes are a great way to frame the face,” says Hayden. “I love Taylor Swift’s side-swept style and Dakota Johnson sure knows how to rock a wispy fringe.”

“Another popular cut at the moment is the lob – the long bob – which is cropped just above the shoulder,” says Hayden. “Ask your hairdresser for long layers for an unstructured look.”

“Pair this look with some texture to avoid looking overdone by loosely wrapping thick sections of hair around an ovular tong, and spritz with a matte hair spray to lock the style in place.” Try ghd curve classic curl tong, $220, Toni & Guy Casual Rough Texturiser, $15.99

Hair colour

“Sophisticated colours are the way to go,” says Hayden. “Try copper highlights or rosy foils to add dimension to hair. Look to icons such as Jessica Chastain and Emma Stone for inspiration. Their colour is always on point.” Try: John Frieda Precision Foam Colour in Medium Copper Brown, $22.99

Style

“I know it seems strange, but wet-slicked bits around the face have been making a massive comeback, thanks to singers like FKA twigs,” says Hayden. “To achieve the same look, use a product that’ll hold onto skin, and give off a super-shiny effect.” Try Fudge Hair Gum, $18.95
