Luxury cabin? Booked. Snowboarding lessons? Locked in.

The snow season is something I really look forward to each year – the thrill of making it to the top of the slopes and riding down is a huge adrenaline rush, but getting chapped and sunburnt skin is doesn’t need to be on the cards. Here’s a list of must-pack items for your trip.

Due to the subzero temperatures, rugging up from head to toe is a must. That’s long pants, big winter jacket, and a beanie at least… leaving the face bare and susceptible to sun damage.

The amount of visible light (not the heat of the sun) indicates the prescence of UV light which will do damage to your skin,” says Associate Professor Pablo Fernández-Peñas, Director of Research & Education of the Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia. “An SPF50+ sunscreen is recommended for all exposed areas including the face, neck, ears and lips, and it needs to be reapplied every 2 hours when outdoors.” Try Cetaphil Suntivity SPF50+ Lipsomal Lotion, $20.95

Put a stop to chapped lips immediately with a nourishing lip balm – keep one in your pocket, bag, tote, car… Try Trilogy Rosehip Oil Lip Balm, $17.95

The day is over, and it’s time to get into some comfy cashmere knits and get cosy with an open fire and hot chocolate. Extreme temperatures can really take a toll on your skin – making it crack or flare up in response to the high heat.

“Sudden temperature changes can zap moisture from your skin, causing it to feel tight, sore or even crack,” says Nivea skincare expert Robyn Hutch. “Prevent this from happening with a rich moisturiser designed specifically to soothe dry skin and lock in moisture.” Try Nivea Repair and Care Body Lotion, $7.99
