Eva Longoria Shares Her Work Ethic, Weaknesses and More

My best tip for wearing glasses…

People think you need to wear less makeup because they think you can just hide behind your glasses, but I think your glasses just accentuates your features. Make sure you’ve got some colour on your cheeks so your cheekbones stand out, or pop some lashes on behind your frames. Even wear a bold lip colour to balance out your face if you’re wearing a more prominent style of glasses.

My favourite glasses are…

I love red glasses – they’re probably my favourite coloured pair. I just tried some blue ones on too and I think they look great – that would be more of a fun or funky look.

My work ethic…

I think you have to be prepared for the opportunities that present themselves to you. That’s the definition of luck – when preparation meets opportunity. You have to be prepared, and that has to do with hard work. I have a very strong work ethic. I’ll work from 4am to 4am if I have to. If you give me a finish line, I will race to the finish line to complete the job. I think it’s important to work hard. I think it’s been lost with younger generations – they don’t think hard work pays off. They just want everything now, and don’t want to work that hard. They also feel a sense of entitlement.

My favourite on-screen role…

I did this movie called Frontera with Ed Harris and Michael Peña, and it was a film about immigration in the United States. I played a woman who didn’t speak English, she spoke Spanish and it was a heartbreaking role, and a really realistic look at what’s happening on our borders.

I loved playing Gabby from The Real Housewives…

It was just so much fun. I am exactly opposite of Gabby – she’s narcissistic and selfish and over-confident and hated children. We are such different people, but that’s why it was so fun to play her.

I’ve got a degree in kinesiology and I love that holistic way of living…

People always ask me “what’s the secret to looking good?” and I always say diet and exercise. There’s no real secret. It’s hard work and it takes a lot of discipline. And especially when you know your body… I know when I eat badly, I really feel it in my body. I do carry a lot of those lessons from that degree.

I’m spiritual to some degree too…

I meditate and do yoga and I think it’s life-saving. It’s really centreing for my mind.

My favourite exercise…

I’m into pilates right now, and in LA there’s this kind of pilates on steroids! It’s like mega-reformer and it’s super hard. It’s really great for lengthening and strengthening, and just so tough.

Cooking is so important to me…

It’s really personal, and I think it’s an extension of yourself. When you cook, there’s such judgement to be put upon you. But I think it’s an intimate thing – I love to share with my friends and I love feeding people and having friends over. It’s my favourite kind of night – whether it’s date night, or just a fun night (instead of a night out)… we always cook, drink wine and relax.

I do that a lot with family too – family events are always centred around food. And most importantly I can’t always be bothered to get dressed up to go out for dinner!

My weakness is…

Wine! I love wine. I always say, I’d rather drink my calories than eat them. If I didn’t drink wine, I’d be a lot thinner. I love reds, California cabernet sauvignons are my favourite. I’ve had some great wine in Australia too – we had some Penfolds for dinner last night.
