Lululemon started off as a yoga brand, but they have branched out into activewear. Many of the designs are solid colours, so you’ll find lots of items that won’t go out of fashion. The clothes are ideal for athleisure wear as you can wear them both inside and outside of the gym.

If you’re just starting out at the gym or running, you can’t go past plain black clothes. As you progress, you can branch out into different styles, colours and patterns. Here are my recommendations on what are some of the best items to add to your activewear wardrobe:

Lululemon Tops

I’ve found the best tops to wear while exercising are basic t-shirts. I prefer a loose fit so that I can move freely. You might prefer a more fitted top or something with a built-in bra.

I like both cotton tees and lightweight breathable sweat-wicking fabrics. Both fabrics are easy to care for, and you can throw them in the washing machine. If you look after them, they don’t need to be ironed.

The Swiftly collection has seamless construction to avoid chafing while exercising. This range uses Silverscent technology, which inhibits the growth of odour-causing bacteria on the garments. These Lululemon tops are available in short and long sleeve, and race length.

I’m blessed to live in a city that’s warm most of the year. If it’s cold, I’ll add a jumper or hoodie that I can easily take off, so I tend not to buy long sleeve fitness tops. If you live somewhere cooler, then look out for the fast and free windbreakers (and water repellent) with back pockets for snacks, or the super snug another mile jacket with a removable collar.

Lululemon Leggings

Once you have tried leggings with side pockets, you might not go back to regular ones. These are ideal for carrying your mobile phone, or keys if you are out running. Lululemon has one of the best ranges of leggings on the market. They have leggings in different lengths including cropped tights, 7/8 and full length.

This season they launched the Swift Speed Tight, made from supportive Luxtreme fabric. It is inseam-free construction designed to eliminate friction points when running. They also have side drop-in pockets and reflective details.

They are perfect to wear for running, yoga, Pilates, cardio or lifting weights. Some are super high waisted and others high waisted. There is a good range of colours from black, green, grey, blue, red, purple to more. The Align pants are super flattering with soft fabric.

I’d recommend always trying on your leggings. Make sure you can bend and squat in them comfortably. Double-check that they are the right size and that they aren’t too see-through at the back.

Some of the activewear clothes are sized from 0-20 to cater for plus-sizes. Lululemon use American sizing, so you’ll need to take that into consideration when trying on different sizes.

Lululemon Gym Bag

I like to have a dedicated bag for going to the gym. I add only a few essentials items: think a gym towel and a water bottle. You don’t want a huge sports bag, as the gym shelves only fit a smaller bag. Lululemon make a number of plain coloured backpacks that would be suitable.

You’ll find a good selection of belt bags and small bags designed for running.

You might need a bigger bag if you are going to change your clothes and shoes. Think the Go Gotter Bag in a classic black that is suitable to take to work.

Other people may like to keep their gym gear in their car boot. They might pack for the week in advance, and take a new towel for each session.
