Interest in Veganism is on the rise. Find out how a vegan lifestyle can reduce your carbon footprint and our round-up of the best vegan beauty products on the market.

The interest in veganism is triple fold. While many are concerned with animal welfare and health, awareness that reducing animal products in your diet and lifestyle has real benefits for the environment is rising. Livestock provides only 18% of calories and 37% of protein but uses 83% of farmland and 60% of agriculture’s greenhouse gas emissions. Agriculture contributes to illegal land clearing and the mass extinction of wildlife. Research shows that 86% of all land mammals are now livestock or humans. That’s not leaving much room for critically endangered species.

But diet isn’t the only way you can reduce your carbon footprint. A surprising number of skincare and beauty brands use animal byproducts in their formulations. By supporting vegan beauty brands, you can vote with your wallet and decrease your carbon footprint at the same time.

Here are my top vegan beauty picks:

Olehenriksen
Olehenriksen Strength Trainer Peptide Boos Moisturizer

Ole Henriksen, Strength Trainer Peptide Boost Moisturiser, $68.00

Complexion depleted post-party season? The new Ole Henriksen Strength Trainer range is focused on building skin’s resilience. Their moisturiser combines hydration-boosting vegan collagen with ceramides, peptides and amino acids to provide you with the boost you need to kick off 2022 glowing!

Caudalie
Caudalie Serum

Caudalie Vinopure Blemish Control Salicylic Serum $67.00

Is the humidity messing with your skin? I know pilates + El Nina has resulted in some unsightly blemishes. This treatment product can be used as serum or spot treatment. The serum combines oil-soluble salicylic acid – which deep cleans the pores, with anti-inflammatory niacinamide and soothing rosewater. It will knock out inflammation and minimize lumps and bumps in a flash.

Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay Deep Pore Cleanser – $45.90

Another great way to decrease your carbon footprint? Shop local. International shipping has a whopping impact on your carbon footprint – particularly in Australia, where products will travel a long way to get to you. This cleanser uses gentle AHAs from native finger lime and Australian pink clay to exfoliate skin and clear congestion. Despite its gel consistency, the cleanser can also remove makeup. What’s more to love?

Coco&Eve Body Moisture Whip – $59.90

Coco&Eve Body Moisture Whip is the perfect step to finish your tanning routine. The fast-absorbing souffle texture drenches the skin in hydration thanks to virgin coconut oil, cacao oil, Fig extract (rich omega fatty acids, Vitamin A, B1 and B2), and coffee seed extract tones and smooths skin. We love. Check out their tanning products here

Arithmos
Arithmos

Arithmos Skin, Superfine Body Oils, $72.00

This range of body oils draws on aromatherapy principles to boost your mood. From UPLIFT, a jasmine and neroli based formulation, to SOOTHE with rose and geranium notes and DESTRESS, a “therapist in a bottle” cedarwood and sandalwood based scent this range of oils are perfect for a serious self-care moment. Vegan and cruelty free, we highly recommend this indulgent range with a conscience.

Ultra-Violette-aims-to-redefine-sun-care-in-Australia-with-its-own-take-on-sunscreens
Ultra Violette aims to redefine sun care in Australia with its own take on sunscreens

Ultra Violette, Queen Screen SPF50+ Luminising Serum Skinscreen, $47.00

Another Australian owned and made favourite, Queen Screen is a staple in my beauty routine and a great vegan sunscreen option. The silky formulation gives a mega-watt glow and is a perfect base for makeup while providing full coverage SPF protection. Kakadu Plum means the formula is packed with skin-brightening Vitamin C as an added benefit.

Aveda botanical kinetics
Aveda botanical kinetics

Aveda, botanical kinetics, $66.00

Made with sweet clover and beta hydroxy acid, this serum is powered with dual plant active technology. The sweet clover stem cells unclog and purify pores while controlling excess sebum oil. Sweet clover is used for tightening pores for balanced matte skin.

Aveda, which is celebrating its first year of being 100% vegan, understands the potency of plants when it comes to beauty. It’s also cruelty free and silicone free.

Rare Beauty, Soft Pinch Liquid Bush, $34.00

Selena Gomez’s brand has made a splash, loved for its gorgeous packaging and easy to use products. My top picks are the blushes – soft matte, blendable formulas in a range of super wearable shades. While many cream blushes catch on foundation or add unwanted shine, Soft Pinch Liquid Blush adds a kiss of believable colour that melts seamlessly into the skin. My personal favourite is their soft peach shade “Bliss”, but there are plenty of options for all skin tones.

Eye of Horus, Skin Tint Serum Foundation, $75.00

Recently launched, Skin Tint Serum Foundation is Eye of Horus’ first foundation product. Australian-made from Byron Bay the lightweight formulation is designed for high humidity – providing a lightweight, water-resistant finish and mineral SPF15+. Boosted with vitamin C&E along with hemp, pomegranate and Boabab oils, the product takes care of skin while it perfects it. The sleek packaging, created with 50% post-consumer recycled packaging, is perfect for post-beach, pre-drinks touch-ups on the go. Until January 31st, if you enter the code Veganuary at checkout you will receive 20% of Eye of Horus’ Vegan Collection!
