Now is the time to change up your pout from that repetitious red or ho hum nude, and pucker up with artistic flair.

It’s all about giving good lip, and what better way than to mix up your lip service with some playful, quirky trends. Here, are three tricky lip trends we’re game enough to try. Go on, be brave beauties….

TWO TONE LIP

Now this is one cool lip. At the fashion forward Kit X Resort 2017 show, Linda Jeffereys did an uber cool two-tone lip in hues of red. Don’t opt for a wildly brash variation, stick to complimentary colours. The trick? Stick to one tone and choose a subtle variation.

Artist Tip:

“We have done two-toned overdrawn lips. First, I’ve seriously overdrawn the lips with MAC Cherry Lip Pencil, then on the top only have traced back over their own lip line with MAC Chestnut. On the lower lip, we put on this amazing Retro Matte Lip Colour in Tailored To Tease, which is like a gloss that dries matte and is very bright.”

BLURRED LIP

The idea of a blurred lip may scare the living beauty daylights out of you, but it’s actually a very wearable trend that makes your lips look bigger (yes, you heard right). It’s Nicole Thompson’s go-to lip trick for a fresher, cooler and poutier pout. Say no more, we’re ready to blur those lines.

Artist Tip:

“We’ve blurred the edges of the lip, it’s more youthful. If it’s a strict edge, it’s really hard and grown up. I’ve used a bullet brush, a small, soft, pointed eye shadow brush and we’re just softening the edge. We put it on perfect, and then rubbing away the edge, you can even do it with a cotton tip. It looks a bit cooler and more relaxed – and you don’t notice if there’s any smudges so it’s easier for everybody! It also makes the lip look fuller – when there’s a hard line it makes the lips look smaller, so that softness makes the lips poutier from a distance. If I’m doing a celebrity, I always blur the lips, especially a dark lip. But not a crazy, theatrical blur! And if you’re wearing it during the day and you’re worried about it coming off unevenly, it stains nicely and it’s much easier to maintain.”

NEOPRENE LIP

Whilst this may take some beauty guts, the neoprene lip is on top of our lippie lust-list. 2016 marks the year of the matte lip, so why not add some punch to your muted pout. Nicole Thompson thinks so, and we agree. So neon lips all the way, but remember to play down the rest of your beauty look.

Artist Tip:

“It looks like a neoprene texture, so it’s a matte lip. I’ve mixed our MAC Pro Lip Mixes together, because sometimes when you pick up that matte lipstick it can be a little dull. We wanted that brightness to it, so we mixed equal parts of orangefuchsia and red together to get this amazing watermelon colour. Then I used the Magenta Madness Pigment with a soft, fluffy brush and we just took the shine off the lip; because it’s neon, when it hits the matte lip it doesn’t make it darker or dull, it just makes it brighter. That’s why you get that fluorescent look through the matte, which is quite hard to get; a bright matte.”
