As a nutritionist, I believe the diet is one of the major driving forces for beautiful, healthy skin. However, this combined with quality products is the ultimate key. My external skin care routine is fairly uncomplicated. I believe in investing in quality and natural products, which contain little to no chemicals.
I really enjoy using Neutrogena Purifying Facial Cleanser, as it is gentle on my skin and contains a number of natural ingredients. I cleanse my face twice each day and moisturise immediately after drying.
I don’t wear a vast amount of make-up either, generally just an SPF tinted moisturiser. However, I will always ensure I remove it prior to going to bed and aim to exfoliate once per week.
In terms of internal factors, I am the first to admit that my diet isn’t perfect all of the time. I strongly believe in balance and love the usual things like a glass of wine (or two), and gelato (after all, I am only human). However, I have these things in moderation and focus on nourishing my body with quality, nutrient dense ingredients the rest of the time.
My favourite foods to promote skin health are avocado, walnuts, chia seeds and quality oils including olive and coconut. I eat nearly a whole avocado a day and snack on nuts throughout the day.
I am also diligent with hydration. I am forever sipping on green tea and kick start the day with filtered water, lemon, activated charcoal and cayenne pepper to promote optimal hydration and to cleanse the liver. I also believe sweating is great for skin health, which is why I practice hot yoga 4-5 times per week. Sweating removes toxins from the body and leaves my skin feeling amazing (after a shower of course).
Sun protection is another area I am extremely conscious of. I always opt for a daily moisturiser with an SPF and keep my skin out of the sun as much as possible. Sunburn is my greatest fear as I am forever trying to prevent early age damage to my skin.
My biggest advice for skin care is to un-complicate the routine and go back to the basics. Nourish the skin with quality products, good food and keep out of the sun!
