1. Dekota Johnson
Winning an Oscar may not be on the cards for 50 Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson this year, but that doesn’t mean that she can’t dress like one. The stunning actor wore a long sleeved, sleek gold dress by Gucci. The conservative silhouette was offset by a leg slit and featured a plissé front detail and a bold cascading bow at her wait. She paired it with half-up, half-down hair and vintage Cartier jewels that were flown in from Geneva especially for the occasion. Dakota told the press that “20 security guards” were monitoring these precious accessories, which included a 1958 baguette-cut diamond necklace and 1940’s ruby-and-gold rings. Talk about old school glamour.
2. Michelle Williams
Michelle glowed in a sparkling gold Louis Vuitton gown, with light golden hair to match. She took a risk with a deeply plunging black neckline, accentuating her pixie cut. This year Michelle is nominated for best supporting actress in the film Manchester by the Sea up against Naomie Harris (Moonlight), Nicole Kidman (Lion), Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures) and Viola Davis (Fences).
3. Emma Stone
One of the favourite A-listers of the evening- Emma Stone is a nostalgic throwback to old school Hollywood Glamour, just like her film La La Land. Her 1920’s Givenchy Haute Couture gown, designed by Riccardo Tisci, is ornate with gold and bronze Swarovski crystals embroidery, and dégradé crystal fringes. Perhaps she hopes that dressing like an Oscar will increase her chances of winning one.\
4. Jessica Biel
Jessica Biel was radiant in her metallic, shining Kaufman Franco gown. If the textured outfit wasn’t already top to toe glitz and glamour, she paired it with a Tiffany & Co. spiked diamond necklace. Justin Timberlake, Jessica’s husband, told ET that if he didn’t win the Oscar for best original song (Can’t stop the feeling) it didn’t matter because “I have my own gold statuette already”.
5. Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman’s untouched porcelain skin and delicate features already make her look like a statue. Her creamy gold jewelled Armani gown took a subtle spin on the ‘Oscar’ trend. Nominated for best supporting actress in Lion, there is no doubt that this flawless starlet is a far cry from her look in the film.
