Celebrity beauty treatments and trends come and go, but one thing’s for sure, celebs are always on the cutting edge of the latest and best new treatments. We spoke to Cosmetic Nurse Cat Tyler from SILK Laser Clinics about the hottest celebrity beauty treatments all the way from Hollywood!
Celebrity Beauty Treatment – Emsculpt
A fave of Kim Kardashian, Drew Barrymore and Bling Empire’s Christine Chiu, Emsculpt is a noninvasive body sculpting device that uses electromagnetic energy to sculpt and tone the body.
EmSculpt is for people who are within their target BMI and are looking to either kick start or enhance their fitness regime. it’s also great for mothers looking to target abdominal separation and improve core strength. Emsculpt can be used to treat the abdominal muscles, glutes, triceps, biceps and calves.
Each initial treatment cycle comprises four thirty minutes sessions. Emsculpt uses HIFEM (High Intensity Focused Electromagnetic energy) which is emitted via a paddle attached to the target muscle. The electromagnetic energy causes involuntary muscle contraction to the target muscles. Each involuntary contraction utilises 100 percent of the muscle as opposed to a voluntary muscle contraction (such as a squat or bicep curl), which only utilises 40 – 60 percent of the muscle. Each session of Emsculpt is the equivalent of 20000 squats or crunches!
Emsculpt doesn’t hurt, but it is certainly intense, especially if its a muscle group that you haven’t previously trained much before. I have had two c- sections and have found it very difficult to activate my abdominal muscles through training. I therefore felt the treatment more intensely in my abs than my glutes, which I train effectively in the gym.
There may be minimal tenderness following your session, similar to an intense targeted workout of that muscle group. It’s recommended to wait a minimum of 48 hours in between sessions.
On average visible results can generally be seen after two weeks, with along with a noticeable improvement in strength. Results last for as long as you maintain your fitness.
A standard package of four treatments is $1799 and maintenance pack of 10 treatments is $2999.
PDO Mono Threads
Loved by Eva Mendes, the celebrity beauty treatment PDO (polydioxanone) Mono Threads are dissolvable sutures that are used for tissue tightening and collagen induction. PDO Mono Threads are suitable for people with good facial volume who are looking for skin or tissue tightening.
This PDO Mono Threadlift works by inserting very fine threads in a area and then tightening them to produce a lifting and firming effect. A topical anaesthetic is used prior to the application. Side effects of PDO Mono Threads can include bruising, swelling and discomfort, however this is easily managed with ice and paracetamol.
Swelling can last 48 – 72 hours. This can be reduced with LED therapy and avoiding strenuous activity in this time. Due to the risk of bruising its recommended to cease any blood thinning supplements or medications 10 days before treatment.
Results can be seen from six weeks and typically improve over the next two to six months. It takes six to nine months for the PDO threads to be fully absorbed into the tissue. During that time, collagen is formed in the treatment area, making results last up to a year or longer, depending on the tissue quality and the patient’s age.
Expect to pay between $599 to $1150.
Epidermal Levelling
Love by mostly everyone in Hollywood and the beauty industry, the celebrity beauty treatment Epidermal Leveling, also known as Dermaplaning, removes dead skin, hair and peach fuzz from the skin’s surface. It leaves a smooth, glowing complexion that makes a perfect base for make up. It’s the favoured celeb beauty treatment before a big event.
During treatment, a surgical grade scalpel is used to exfoliate and remove unwanted facial hair. In addition to giving a smoother complexion, a secondary benefit is the enhanced penetration of your skincare products. A soothing balm is applied post treatment.
Dermaplaning is completely painless and feels like minor scraping of the skin. There is no downtime.
Your skin appears dewy and fresh straight after the treatment, due to the brightening and exfoliating action. Results will last two weeks, in line with the growth cycle of facial hair.
Expect to pay approximately $150 – $200.
